Dogville
Someone at DU mentioned this film a few days ago, but I haven't figured out how to find things like that around here...at any rate, I just finished watching it and this is one incredible movie. so whoever you are, whereever you are, thanks for mentioning it...I would never have seen it otherwise.

1. Check this link ...

If this isn't it, click the Search link and do a search on "dogville" without the quotes.

2. I have not been able to struggle through it yet
I got it off of kazaa and am about 25% of the way through. But I it very boring and cannot finish it. I know it supposedly deals with some important ideas, but I just don't see the important ideas yet. The theme seems to be dealing with acceptance of outsiders.

From what I have read about the movie on imdb, it deals with some of the problems that America has with treating its own citizens poorly, i.e., how come we treat each other like shit? Why don't we just organize our country so that we can all live good lives? Why do we live like animals?
But I do not see these themes yet.

Supposedly the director was interested in the writings of Jakob Holdt, whose photos from his book American Pictures are shown at the end of dogville.

I love Holdt's internet writings. Read this webpage of his:
http://www.american-pictures.com/english/racism/articles/welfare.htm

supposedly some the ideas from that webpage are in dogville, but so far I cannot see them....

3. I know what you mean
I loved the beginning, and actually fast fowarded through the middle, but the ending was really worth it. Forget the "great themes"...all I could think about were all those poor downtrodden gun loving anti abotionists without a pot to piss in who still support Bush.

By the way, how does one do a search on DU? I once tried and got a message that i had to be a donor or something like that. must have done something wrong.

4. you do have to be a donor
first donate a couple $$, then after a couple days, a gold star will magically appear beside your name on your posts. THEN you can search postsby users, or posts with certain key words. Very good search function here....
