Thanks!

2. Every time I am at the Goodwill looking for LPs, |
|
there are several people checking out the computers. If it works, consider taking it there.
If it doesn't work, try to find a recycler. There may be nasty chemical stuff inside that shouldn't go into the ground.

3. Don't donate to a thrift store |
|
Speaking as someone who still owns his Atari 8-bit, STs and TTs, I'd say keep it. However, if you decide to get rid of it, try to find it a good home on usenet or physically on a local bulletin board or something. I wouldn't recommend donating it to a thrift store, many of them will just trash it - others won't even accept them because some of the materials are considered toxic waste and they have to pay extra to dispose of them. You might try ebay too, of course.

Some schools will still take older Macs. If you trash it, wait for an eltronics dump day. Otherwise landfills charge $35 to$45 to take any kind of electronic equipment.

7. Unless you know somebody poor who NEEDS a limited computer... |
|
it is not worth the electricity required to turn it on. Heck, I have a Performa 6320 that I am finding little reason to keep other than the fact that it has a tuner card and is the basement TV set.

Check for a freecycle group in your area. Post it, if someone wants it, they'll come pick it up.
I do have trouble tossing old Macs myself. Picked up an old Mac SE with the idea of making an aquarium out of it. Plugged it up, it worked perfectly. Could not bear to gut it. Found an old browser and a copy of Photoshop 1.0 that run great on it. What fine machines!
I'm sure someone, somewhere could use it.

Send it to an Old Macs Home or something but don't junk it! That's Mac abuse!

Of course, I'm talking about a 2000 model iBook for a 2004 model iBook, not a 1993 model LC III...
