It's part of the package. You can't get confirmed without one.

patron saint of lost keys.

I have a little shrine to her on my refrigerator, I really do, and it comes in VERY handy at times!

25. OK, will you ask her where MY keys are?

I lost them on October 22, 2002.

(Why didn't somebody tell me St. Zita was for lost keys? I've been relying on Anthony, who usually delivers, but he's not gotten me my keys back.)

Dear Saint Anthony,
Please come around,
Something is lost,
And cannot be found.

52. I lost a set around the same time, wasn't aware of St. Zita then.
Shortly after, my boss went to Santa Fe and discovered a shop dedicated to Santeria and patron saints. She brought me some St. Zita goodies.

Still haven't found my original set, but she's saved my carcass a couple of other times!

18. patron Sainte of Paris
Very cool, I think.

Ste. Genevieve de Paris (422-512)
January 3; Patroness of Paris

Ste. Genevieve was born at Nanterre near Paris in 422. She was first recognized by Bishop (later St.) Germain of Auxerre, who visited her native village when she was seven years old and foretold her future sanctity. She was consecrated to God as a virgin at that age.

Ste. Genevieve is the patroness of the city of Paris. It is said that when Alaric the Dessai was approaching Paris to sack it, she exhorted the citizens of the city to invoke the blessing of God to save them from this scourge, and that her and their prayers were answered, for Alaric averted his march.

She is revered for her austerity, her constant prayer and her charity

Seems to me if somebody can post a pagan baptism thread, you can post a patron saint thread. Ought to be room for everybody, that's what liberalism is supposed to be I thought.

and notice they have a patron saint for AIDS victims, hmm unlike certain fundies who prefer to call AIDS victims sinners, the Catholics are kind enough to do that.

Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 11:57 PM by Rowdyboy
How dare they discriminate! Oh, yeah, .....sorry. As Gilda Radner would say, "Nevermind". Guess I'll just stick with St Fiacre, patron saint of gardeners and cabdrivers, who was a notorious misogynist (he wouldn't even let women stay in his monastery over night after one accused him of inappropriate behavior).

30. Just FYI, there's no patron saint for heterosexuals, either.

Also none for arachnophobes, although those who fear snakes or mice are covered.

Or for asthmatics, though the saint for St. Vitus's Dance is listed.

But, anyone who feels excluded can appeal to St. Patrick, patron saint of excluded people (and Ireland, and fear of snakes.) ;-)

51. Actually, John, the English church was never quite 100% in line
with the Vatican. After the retreat of the Romans from Britain, the British catholic church developed separately for hundreds of years. Some British catholic church officials already felt they were equal to Rome. There's more to the story than Catherine of Arragon being unable to bear a son-and its a fascinating story.

Okay, the Anglicans did give the Roman Catholics a tough time, but Henry's daughter "Bloody" Mary I returned the favor by hanging/beheading quite a few protestants. Also, those French Roman Catholics were pretty tough on my Huguenot ancestors (razing villages and your occasional burning at the stake and such). Our Christianity of "love" has quite a turbulent history (to be kind).
