OK, I finally "get" Jude Law
Maybe he's making better choices in movies lately or really breaking out as a major star, but Sky Captain was fun, and I'm really looking forward to Closer and Alfie. I like the guy.

1. Sky Captain was horrible and he's a terrible actor.
But he's hot. There's nothing to "get". Hot. That is all.

2. Oh, c'mon.
If you didn't like Sky Captain, you're a wet blanket.

And go watch the trailers for Closer and Alfie -- the guy appears to have charisma and talent in addition to being "hot".

6. Re: Sky Captain
Didn't work as a spoof. Didn't work as a straight romantic comedy. Gywneth Paltrow incredibly grating. Jude Law vapid. Dialogue painfully bad. Angelina Jolie only interesting thing in movie and was in it for approximately 0.5 seconds.

Awful.

I am not a wet blanket.

11. A spoof?
Wasn't intended to be a spoof. It was Fritz Lang's Metropolis meets Raiders of the Lost Ark.

No, the dialogue wasn't great -- but as a two-hour canvas, it was pretty amazing to look at, and that includes Angelina Jolie. :loveya:

I still think your blanket is at least a little damp. ;-)

17. Don't worry, Paragon...
Skip and I usually see which movies these finicky DUers hate, and we go see them because of it. And we usually like it. Take it with a grain of salt. There are a lot of people who hate everything that comes out no matter who's in it.

25. How do you know I am finicky or hate everything that comes out?
You are awfully judgemental for not knowing me at all. I actually like most movies, I am pretty easygoing about them, including cheesy romantic comedies and stuff that the critics panned.

This particular movie was bad, that's what I'm saying. That should not be extrapolated to say that I hate everything that comes out. That's false and an overgeneralization.

28. I am not un-calm.
You post doesn't seem silly. Let's look at it:

You said, Skip and I usually see which movies these finicky DUers hate

So were you kidding about that? Was that the silly part? It doesn't come off like a joke.

And then there's, There are a lot of people who hate everything that comes out no matter who's in it.

So was that the jokey/silly part? Because, again, it doesn't come off jokey.

Since you were responding to Paragon's post that was responding to mine, who else could you have been talking about?

I also found your reply, Will you calm down to be dismissive and not reflective of the situation, since I wasn't hysterical in my post.

29. It wasn't meant to be funny...
But it was meant to say that most movies get a blatantly negative review from most DUers. Either you have a guilty conscience, since I never named you, or you're just looking for someone to jump on.

You responded to Paragon's post in which he was telling me I was a wet blanket for not liking Sky Captain. You were supporting him in his post. He was responding to me. To whom else were you directing your comments? If not directed toward me, your comments make no sense at all.

What on earth would I have a guilty conscience about? Not liking Sky Captain? Come on. :)

26. It WAS nice to look at.
So is J-Lo. So was Star Wars episode one.

I need a little more than that to enjoy a film. Characters I care about and dialogue I can stomache are necessary for me. Other than that, I'm pretty open-minded about it.

I keep my blanket, like my poweder, dry. ;-)

22. I didn't see
I didn't yet see Sky Captain, but it does look fun. Closer, however, I have absolutely no interest in. It looks like a self-indulgent snore-fest. Alfie, on the other hand... I can't wait to see. (Oh, and I Heart Huckabees!)

I liked Law in The Talented Mr. Ripley and in AI. (I think I'm the only person living that actually liked AI.) He was also good in Road to Perdition!

I hated him, however, in Cold Mountain and Existenz. So, he doesn't always float my boat, but he can if he has a good role to work with! :)

24. I thought A.I. was frickin' awesome.
People had problems with A.I. because it exposed Man's basic tendencies toward all sorts of evil behavior.

Gigolo Joe was just the ticket to balance the somber tone of the "Blade Runner" part of the movie.

3. better choices?
I think Law has done okay.

Road to Peridition, Cold Mountain, AI.. these were bad choices? I admit that I'm not a big AI fan, but it didn't totally suck. :-)

Like I said, Closer and Alfie look really interesting.

Maybe I just identify with the playboy characters.

I remember hearing how hot he is, then I saw him in something--might have been "Gattica," and I said, "huh? that's him?" I didn't see it at all.
