Poll question: What do you think is the monster in the woods on Lost?
I FINALLY got a chance to watch the entire pilot of Lost that I taped on Saturday. Bad move doing that before I went to sleep last night. :scared: What do you think is the big scary monster in the woods?

9. I think the polar bear was a red herring.
Whatever the monster is, it's big enough to flatten really tall trees. I think that rules out a bear, unless it's a Dr. Moreau kind of bear.

I can also see them luring us (and the survivors) into thinking the monster was killed, and then having it pop out of nowhere and eat someone.

I'd vote for the annoying blonde girl, except she was kinda useful the one time. :)

14. UGH. Yeah, she's annoying.
Someone is supposed to die on the next episode - my guess is the creepy guy who plays backgammon. I don't think they'd get rid of the cute girl so soon. :eyes:

23. I can't shake the feeling there's more to him
It could just be my irrational Daniel Dae Kim love talking but I hope there's more to that situation than we're being told. 'Cause it just bugs that on an otherwise really creative show they'd use the tired old stereotype of the cold/abusive Asian husband.

Well, er. At least there's TWO Asian actors on a tv show. Yay? *sigh*

27. You might be right....
he could Kim Jong-Il's secret operative, highly versed in nuclear matters coming to work as a sleeper in the US. *lol*

yeah - I'm glad that there's SE Asians, Indo-Pak/Middle easterners, black folks, fat people, smokers, heroin addicts, random pregnant women with no men in tow, female criminals - sadly Latin Americans aren't adequately represented.

29. Hehe
Between Comedy Central's Kid Notorious and the new Matt Stone/Trey Parker Thunderbirds spoof I will never be able to take Kim Jong-Il seriously ever again. :P

But yeah it is a pretty diverse show, despite the apparent lack of Latino passengers (which is a shame). I was pleasantly surprised that Harrold Perrineau didn't get eaten. You know the black dude is always the first one to get eaten! :eyes:

32. *lol*! i totally said the same thing
to my roommate when we were wathcing it.

I'm pleased that they are blowing away all my pre-conceived notions.

the other thing that shocked me was when was the last time that you saw soemone light up a cigarette on a primetime Big 3 show?

2. it's very Island of Dr. Moreau.
my guess is secret government experiment, on genetic recombination or some such thing, and the insane animals they were experimenting on got smart and start eating researchers.

i was actually surprised that i enjoyed this show. it's good stuff.

4. I wonder.
It appears that there was an accident 16 years ago, which is probably when the animals like the bear appeared. Maybe a cargo plane of animals? And maybe that is how this big ol' beast survives on the island, by eating the old-school survivors and animals and such. Just speculation.

altho i can't be sure, because my 5 years of french didn't give me the same translation as the girl gave.

(not that i can tell you what my translation was - it just didn't sound like what she said)

I was also thinking about adding the idea of radiation-induced genetic mutation to the secret government experiment theory.

Remember all those nuclear tests that France did in the South Pacific? And that's where the island is (the pilot said they blew off course trying to fly back to Fiji).

It would also explain why the woman was speaking French.

18. Could be.
I'm just not sure about this bear theory. There are obviously bears running loose but I don't think the Big Bad is a bear.

If that's the case I'd almost rather they went the super-obvious and cliche dinosaur route.

25. Yeah
I just love godzilla. :)

It doesn't really work, though, since the pilot wasn't eaten. I would think a bear would eat the whole pilot.

26. Godzilla's cool!
:)

I was talking to my mom about it (I'm shocked she loves this show, she HATES anything scary/out of the ordinary), and she thinks it might be some kind of giant kitty. There's some species of jungle cat that likes to hide its food in the trees for later consumption...brain farting on the actual one but I saw it on Animal Planet a while ago.

I can see that... they experiment with various species... end up with a successfully weaponized cat.

Even kind of explains those weird sounds, sorta.

24. A nuclear test site
would also explain why no one will come and rescue anyone on this island. If there was a cover-up, even if they KNEW there were people there, no one will ever come to help.

Which would explain how they are going to bring this thing for more than just one season. No help on the way, EVER! Just like gilligan's island.

11. It's totally a lab
that would explain the rescue signal that has supposedly been going on for 16 years, too. What's powering that thing, anyway? Are there batteries that can last that long? Or is it some other power source? That's why I think there's some sort of permanent station or lab on the island. I think a monster got out and killed all of the researchers (except for the lady who recorded the rescue message). It's still tearing up shit in the jungle.

On the tv site I hang out at everyone thinks Rupert's ego took on a life of its own. :P

And of course there's all the obvious Alias jokes, what with J.J. Abrams and all the Alias actors on this show (RIP, Pilot Weiss).

20. I went with the crowd in
A secret government experimentation.

Though I think the first choice could be a little more chilling and interesting, it also has potential to become convoluted and confusing to television viewers everywhere.

22. I think #1 is an interesting possibility BUT
I've seen it done to death on Star Trek so much I'm hoping against it. Right now I'm leaning heavily towards the government experiment theory.

Bleah who am I fooling? The actual answer will be way lamer than anything the audience can think up. It's usually how these things go. I'm way too young to remember, but a good friend of mine told me some of the wild theories and speculation that sprung up among Star Wars fans when Empire Strikes Back came out and Vader told Luke he was his father.

Then Return of the Jedi came out and Vader really was his father and everyone was kinda disappointed. :P

31. well, the big guy is going to have to die
or actually lose weight. I like him. I hope he loses weight. Or they'll have to find some way to explain him remaining large...I'm digging it though. I thought the big killer thing is invisible-I've been thinking 'The Island of Dr Moreau' but that was about changing animals into humans-I hope whatever it is, it's not LAME

who is playing the Iraqi.
but what about the weight thing? a 'Desert Island' scenario is not conducive to maintaining excess weight. Tom Hanks lost pounds, apparently for that movie he was in with the soccer ball.

maybe a 'Dessert' Island? :)
