6. Too drunk to F*** - Dead Kennedys
Damn, those lyrics rip my heart out every time!

Went to a party
I danced all night
I drank 16 beers
And I started up a fight

But now I am jaded
You're out of luck
I'm rolling down the stairs
Too drunk to f***

Too drunk to f***
Too drunk to f***
Too drunk, to f***
I'm too drunk, too drunk, too drunk
To f***

I like your stories
I love your gun
Shooting out truck tires
Sounds like loads and loads of fun

But in my room
Wish you were dead
You ball like the baby
In Eraserhead

Too drunk to f***
Too drunk to f***
Too drunk, to f***
It's all I need right now
Too drunk to f***

Too drunk to f***
Too drunk to f***
Too drunk, to f***
I'm sick soft gooey and cold
Too drunk to f***

I'm about to drop
My head's a mess
The only salvation is
I'll never see you again

You give me head
It makes it worse
Take out your f***'in' retainer
Put it in your purse

I'm too drunk to f***
You're to drunk to f***
Too drunk to fuck
It's all I need right now Oh baby
I'm melting like an ice cream bar
Oh baby

And now I got diarrhea
Too drunk to f***
Yeah, Yeah
Yeah, Yeah
Yeah, Yeah
Oooohhh

9. Into The West
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 04:11 PM by Reciprocity
This song is sung at the end of “The Return of the King” . Also you hear the music for it when Gandalf talks about death being just another journey to Pippin. I cant imagine anyone but Annie Lennox singing this song. For some inexplicable reason it makes me cry everytime.

"Into The West"
ANNIE LENNOX

Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You’ve come to journey's end
Sleep now
And dream of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across the distant shore

Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping

What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home

And all will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
All souls pass

Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time
Don't say: «We have come now to the end»
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again

And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping

And all will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the West

13. One More Day--Diamond Rio
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 04:49 PM by YellowRubberDuckie
And Angels Among Us by same band...

Here's the text to One More Day:
Last night I had a crazy dream
a wish was granted just for me
it could be for anything
I didn't ask for money
or a mansion in Malibu
I simply wished for one more day with you!

One more day, one more time
one more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
but then again, I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still for one more day with you
one more day...........

First thing I'd do is pray for time to crawl
I'd unplug the telephone and keep the t.v off
I'd hold you every second
say a million I love you's
that's what I'd do with one more day with you

One more day, one more time
one more sunset maybe I'd be satisfied
but then again I know what it would do
leave me wishing still for one more day with you

one more day, one more time
one more sunset maybe I'd be satisfied
but then again I know what it would do
leave me wishing still for one more day
leave me wishing still for one more day
leave me wishing still for one more day with you.

19. 1913 Massacre
By Woody Guthrie. I really lose it with this one:

Take a trip with me in 1913,
To Calumet, Michigan, in the copper country.
I will take you to a place called Italian Hall,
Where the miners are having their big Christmas ball.

I will take you in a door and up a high stairs,
Singing and dancing is heard everywhere,
I will let you shake hands with the people you see,
And watch the kids dance around the big Christmas tree.

You ask about work and you ask about pay,
They'll tell you they make less than a dollar a day,
Working the copper claims, risking their lives,
So it's fun to spend Christmas with children and wives.

There's talking and laughing and songs in the air,
And the spirit of Christmas is there everywhere,
Before you know it you're friends with us all,
And you're dancing around and around in the hall.

Well a little girl sits down by the Christmas tree lights,
To play the piano so you gotta keep quiet,
To hear all this fun you would not realize,
That the copper boss' thug men are milling outside.

The copper boss' thugs stuck their heads in the door,
One of them yelled and he screamed, "there's a fire,"
A lady she hollered, "there's no such a thing.
Keep on with your party, there's no such thing."

A few people rushed and it was only a few,
"It's just the thugs and the scabs fooling you,"
A man grabbed his daughter and carried her down,
But the thugs held the door and he could not get out.

And then others followed, a hundred or more,
But most everybody remained on the floor,
The gun thugs they laughed at their murderous joke,
While the children were smothered on the stairs by the door.

Such a terrible sight I never did see,
We carried our children back up to their tree,
The scabs outside still laughed at their spree,
And the children that died there were seventy-three.

The piano played a slow funeral tune,
And the town was lit up by a cold Christmas moon,
The parents they cried and the miners they moaned,
"See what your greed for money has done."

21. Time....Alan Parsons project

Time, flowing like a river
Time, beckoning me
Who knows when we shall meet again
If ever
But time
Keeps flowing like a river
To the sea

Goodbye my love, Maybe for forever
Goodbye my love, The tide waits for me
Who knows when we shall meet again
If ever
But time
Keeps flowing like a river (on and on)
To the sea, to the sea

Till it's gone forever
Gone forever
Gone forevermore

Goodbye my friends, Maybe forever
Goodbye my friends, The stars wait for me
Who knows where we shall meet again
If ever
But time
Keeps flowing like a river (on and on)
To the sea, to the sea

Till it's gone forever
Gone forever
Gone forevermore

I picked it out for my brother in law's funeral who died of a brain aneurysm when he was only 39.

25. "Track 13" by Beck
It's a hidden track only on the Japanese version of his beautiful, albeit wicked depressing, album "Seachange" :

When I called you in the morning
you were struggling for sense
you were journeying through memories so vicious you made all your dying wishes come true
but I know you’re gonna try
to live without love, by and by
but that’s not living, that’s just dying
going by...
going by...my love
Now that ship in the bottle
has got no place to sail
You see waves getting darker every hour
the stars have lost their power in the sky
but I know you’re gonna try
to live without love, by and by
but that’s not living
that’s just dying
going by...
going by...my love

Sigh... ;( ;( ;(

35. Almost every song on Johnny Cash's last album is about death...
and loss. Phew, The Man In Black **really** went noir with this one.

If his ragged, rumbling, I've-seen-it-all-and-then-some baritone on such chestnuts as "Streets of Laredo," "Danny Boy," and "We'll Meet Again" don't bring some water to your shutters, you may not be human. The spare arrangements also enable the heartbreak.

40. "The World Turned Upside Down"
by Leon Rosselson. Lots of nice covers, too. I think my favourite is by Karan Casey.

In 1649
To St George's Hill
A ragged band they called the Diggers
Came to show the people's will
They defied the landlords
They defied the laws
They were the dispossessed
Reclaiming what was theirs

We come in peace, they said
To dig and sow
We come to work the land in common
And to make the waste land grow
This earth divided
We will make whole
So it can be
A common treasury for all.

The sin of property
We do disdain
No one has any right to buy and sell
The earth for private gain
By theft and murder
They took the land
Now everywhere the walls
Rise up at their command.

They make the laws
To chain us well
The clergy dazzle us with heaven
Or they damn us into hell
We will not worship
The God they serve
The God of greed who feeds the rich
While poor men starve

We work, we eat together
We need no swords
We will not bow to masters
Or pay rent to the lords
We are free men
Though we are poor
You Diggers all stand up for glory
Stand up now

From the men of property
The orders came
They sent the hired men and troopers
To wipe out the Diggers' claim
Tear down their cottages
Destroy their corn
They were dispersed -
Only the vision lingers on

You poor take courage
You rich take care
The earth was made a common treasury
For everyone to share
All things in common
All people one
We come in peace
The order came to cut them down

44.  End Of The Day
I've seen the end of the day come too soon
Not a lot to say, not a lot to do
You played the game, you owe nothing to yourself
Rest a day, for tomorrow you can't tell
You can't tell

I've seen the end of the day come too late
Seen the love you had turning into hate
Had to act like I didn't even care
But I did so I got stranded standing there
Standing there

It's nothing that I haven't seen before
But it still kills me like it did before
No it's nothing that I haven't seen before
But it still kills me like it did before

I've seen the end of the day come too soon
Like the prison dogs they set out after you
You owe nothing to the past but wasted time
To serve a sentence that was only in your mind
In your mind

It's nothing that I haven't seen before
But it still kills me like it did before
No it's nothing that I haven't seen before
But it still kills me like it did before

Beck~

49. Eighteen Yellow Roses by Bobby Darin (bet it'll make you cry too)
Eighteen yellow roses came today
Eighteen rose in a pretty bouquet
When the boy came to the door
I didn't know what to say
But eighteen yellow roses came today

I opened up the card to see what it said
Couldn't believe my eyes when I had read
Though you belong to another,I love you anyway
Yes eighteen yellow roses came today

I never doubted your love for a minute
I always thought that you would be true
But now this box with the flowers in it
I guess there's nothing left for me to do

But ask to meet the boy who has done this thing
And find out if he's got plans to buy you a ring
Cause eighteen yellow roses, will wilt and die one day
But a fathers love will never fade away
Yes,eighteen yellow roses came today

This song was popular in 1963 and I remember my dad telling me it was his favorite. He died that year on October 14 - I was 6 years old.

53. Nightswimming
by R.E.M.

A close friend in high school loved R.E.M., and engineered at her graduation that they play that song as the audience packed up and left. That one line "September's coming soon, pining for the moon" really hit a nerve, as I was getting ready to leave family and friends and head off into the world...

Anyway, still makes me cry.

55. (I Hope You) Dance
I think it is Leann Womack

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance-- hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin' might mean takin' chances but they're worth takin'
Lovin'might be a mistake but it's worth makin'
Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter
When you come close to sellin'out reconsider
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance-- hope you dance
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along)
I hope you dance-- hope you dance
(Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder, where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance-- hope you dance
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along)
I hope you dance-- hope you dance
(Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder, where those years have gone)

57. "Baby Mine" from Dumbo.
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 12:37 AM by tedoll78
Not kidding.

I was driving home to Austin from New Orleans after last year's Christmas holiday, and an NPR station played it just as I was crossing back over into Texas. Seeing as how I always get depressed after leaving my parents in Louisiana, this song didn't help. God, how I teared-up..

/such a momma's boy

=========

But, on second thought, first place: "Moon River" from 'Breakfast At Tiffany's'

This song always reminds me of the end of the movie. The alley, Cat being lost, the rain, Holly running from the taxi.. I'm fine through all of this, but the moment when this song starts, this man begins to bawl like a friggin' baby! It just all overwhelms me, not matter how many times I've seen it.

68. "The Flesh Failures/Let The Sunshine" In from "Hair"
It's so sad, because it's about a young man dying in a war. The words are heart-wrenching.

It always pisses me off to hear a choir sing the "Let The Sunshine In" part as a happy song-it's not. It's more of a prayer for something good after a horrible loss.
