Tonight's baseball factoid:
Divison Series are 5 games.
To advance to the next round, you need to win a total of three (3) games out of the five.
This means it is mathematically probable, especially in a five (5) game series, to, get this, lose the first game and still win the series!
Whodathunkit?
With the posts I'm reading, you'd think it's a one game sudden death round with the Twins just beating the Yankees.

1. Oh no. A Yankee apologist.
Twins in 4. Sox in 5, then Sox in 4.

2. A Yankee apologist...?
I apologize for nothing.
I'm just sick of unfounded Yankee bashing and people who obviously do not watch enough baseball to make rational conversation.

5. I watch and have watched more baseball than the average person.
A fan since I was 4 in 1960 when I first watched a World Series.
Oh, and the Pirates beat the Yanks that year despite being outscored 45-14.

9. I wasn't targeting you
You're rational. I don't care if people hate the Yankees- but if you trash talk and have nothing to back it up, then I get wicked pissed.

7. a factoid about Yankee-bashing
It is NEVER unfounded. It is our sacred duty as people who oppose the GOP and all that it symbolizes to oppose the Yankees. They are the Republican right-wing of baseball. Entitled overdogs, just like the minions in the White House.

:P

14. They aren't "entitled" to anything
If anything, those Red Sox fans I deal with on campus think that they are ENTITLED to a ring without earning them.
The Yankees win. 'Das it.

21. ah, a frontrunner
I love when people choose a team based on their history, or gawd help us, "tradition". Go with the easy and safe choices - always be identified with the WINNERS in life. A very Republican attitude. Those poor Yankees, oppressed overdogs! :nopity:

Cue up chants of U-S-A! U-S-A! ...and so forth.

You get all defensive about a FUCKING BASEBALL TEAM, and wonder why we mock you. They are millionaire jocks with some skills at their chosen profession. Really, nothing to get into a lather about. ;-)

24. I love them for two reasons
One, I watched baseball as a kid. I loved Graig Nettles.
Two, I like the players that have been on the team: Brosius, Knoblauch- remember those? I'm sure you don't. They weren't stars, they were amazing players that had interesting stories behind them.

I do not love them for being winners. Winning is easy. It's standing losing that's hard, and for me, I've been around the team long enough to identify fair weather fans. They pop up all the time, and disapear when they lose.
Any Yankee fan that does not know their history of the team is a loser for picking them on the basis of winning.

27. that's all fine and well
But I really don't give a flying fucking pig's dick why ANYONE likes the Yankees.

If they help me win a bet, they are useful.

Which is a lot more than I can say from the trash talking Twins/Sox trolls lately.

Just a well-developed one.

Fuck, don't they teach you kids ANYTHING in college these days, besides how to ruin your liver?

17. And again, it's not an excuse
It's an observation that MANY PEOPLE do NOT grasp the concept that in a 5 game series losing the first game is NOT a big deal, especially for a team like the Yankees.
It's not an excuse for anything. It's pointing out the flaws in the arguements that I've been hearing for the past 2 hours.

any other team ever! They DO buy rings. Steinbrenner will tell you that himself.

19. We've been down this road
In the years that they had the highest payroll, they didn't win the WS from 2001-.
The Sox have the second highest payroll AND have a team composed of non-farm team players that were either acquired by trade or cash.
The Yankees' core is built on their home grown players.
Again, money does not ensure victory. Look at the Angels- low payroll, and they smacked, and have smacked for several years, the Yankees in 2002.

15. LOL
Sports isn't worth all the emotion and seriousness that people put into it, but I do enjoy pressing buttons on what is basically a meaningless diversion.

And I say meaningless because I have no money riding on this series, which is the ONLY thing that gives sports meaning.

18. I'm in a bad mood
I'm sick, I'm tired, they lost, and I go to Boston College on a day when the Sox win.
I'm sorry for being snarky, but baseball is my mindless distraction from other things right now...

25. It is
Baseball is a complement to life; it's a hobby- not my life.
Given the fact that so many people rot their brains on far worse things, I think my love of baseball is a good choice.
And it does rawk. Specifically, Derek Jeter's ass rawks.

:P

Well, yeah, it beats crack as a hobby. But hell, so does ripping my eyes out and stabbing my brain with a butter knife.

And my point? Like I have one?? :P

Besides, we all know Jeter is giving his dick to A-rod every night. He has no room for you.

6. and world series are 7 games
Sigh my fucking orioles blew not one but two of those while up 3-1 in the 70's. Let the Twins and Santana kick ass but arrogance is the death of teams, hey I would know ok, people here in NoVA were acting like Joe Gibbs was gonna bring the skins to the superbowl, and I honestly thought that Gibbs though a great coach wouldnt win a division title this year.
