http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002RUPH4/qid=1097038964/sr=2-1/ref=pd_ka_2_1/103-7700802-8053448

I know this is momumental news in the history of music, so try to contain yourselves . . . here's what amazon.com has to say . . .

Album Description
From pop-culture icon William Shatner comes Has Been, an album unlike anything you’ve ever heard before. Produced and arranged by Ben Folds and featuring numerous notable guest appearances, Has Been is the result of the collision of two great creative forces — a surprisingly pop-driven, lyrically potent collection of songs to enlighten and entertain.

Throughout Has Been, Shatner’s own insightful lyrics are masterfully woven into perfect pop melodies written and arranged by Ben Folds. Giving Shatner and Folds a hand on the project is an incredible lineup of singers and musicians, including Jon Auer, Adrian Belew, Matt Chamberlain, Joe Jackson, Lemon Jelly, Aimee Mann, Brad Paisley, Henry Rollins and Sebastian Steinberg.

Highlights include the poignant "That’s Me Trying," penned by Ben Folds with High Fidelity author Nick Hornby, a brilliant version of the Pulp Britpop classic "Common People," featuring vocals by Joe Jackson and closing track, "Real," a duet with country star Brad Paisley, written exclusively for this project.

3. Say what you will about Shatner ...
... I'm a fan, and I'm not even a Trekker/Trekkie.

The guy is one of the most brilliant comic actors of all time, as well. While we laugh at the pomposity, very few of us see through to the subtlety and depth below it. And he handles every genre as if he was born into it.

But far and away the strongest part of his appeal is that William Shatner takes risks. And in our risk-averse age, to see someone with so visible a presence take enormous risks for his art is inspring. William Shatner is a modern avatar of Nietzche's tightrope performer in Thus Spake Zarathustra.

As the 133t crowd might say: "Greets, Props, Respects fly out to 5hatn3r".

Shatner has been ... is ... and shall be. Amen.

6. Ah, so nicely said!
I think Shatner gets the shaft far too often, especially for his acting, which really is quite good.

And totally right on about taking risks. He doesn't take himself seriously, though he takes his work very seriously, and thus, as I see it, comes his ability - even his yearning - to take risks. Doesn't matter if he fails - the real failure would be not to risk it to begin with.

5. Shatner deserves respect for being willing to laugh at himself
I mean, take Hasselhoff, for example.
