Arrivederci Roma
Ciao DUer's,

I posting my last email from the great city of Roma, Italia - I am very sad to leave as I have had a most wonderful time being here. There were a few wrinkles and I did get rooked on a few occasions but I held my own pretty well for my first visit to a non-English speaking county.

I cannot recommend more learning the language of a country you are visiting. Months prior to my visit I started taking Italian lessons, my grasp of the language still sucks ass but I know enough to shock the residents. They were truly surprised that I knew a little Italian and where absolutely DELIGHTED!!!!!!! by it. You would be amazed how friendly they were when you at least tried to speak their language. I can't stress it enough - they love it.

Until tomorrow...Arrivederci.

3. They certainly are
I spent 3 years in Sellia Marina (look for the little mini-arch inside the arch of the boot). Many of the guys never left the base and barely bothered to learn anything. I learned well enough to teach english (albeit poorly) to a group of the local residents. Ended up being some of the most enjoyable times of my life.
Please everyone, take the time to learn a little of the language when you travel - you won't regret it.

5. It's just good manners to learn at least a few phrases of

a country's language when you visit there. If you go outside of the larger cities, you find that many Italians don't speak English, and, as you've learned, Italians are very warm and friendly people who appreciate visitors who try to speak their language. Not to mention that it is probably the world's most beautiful language. :-)

L'Italia è sede allineare del mio cuore e vivrei là se potessi.

And I'll be there in six weeks!

9. Ho dimenticato il mio francese!!!!
Boy! Was that ever frustrating during my lay over in Paris.

Had a great conversation with a French stewardess... we were ripping into Bush - it was great.

11. Yes, I liked Trastevere :-)
Sadly, I didn't spend as much time as I would have liked. :-(

Though, I did have a nice Spaghetti alle Vongole at a decent pizzeria. :-)

One thing I noticed that Italians aren't into vintage record shops like we are. However, what they don't have in vintage vinyl they do have in books!!!
