yeah, THIS "freeper disruptor" who was "outed" last night NEVER spent his own $$ printing and handing out flyers with other DUers in the cold rain, never stood on street corners protesting, never drove with other DUers down to DC to protest on the Mall, and certainly never kept his friends and relatives informed on the facts and converted some to vote for Kerry.

this is a solidarity note. Screw those who "outed" you. I read and responded to your post last night, and I essentially agreed with you. I thought Edwards did O.K. last night, not great, O.K. Glad as I am that apparently most pundits and the public disagree with me, I still don't think Edwards was at his best. But what really bothers me is the lack of respect for dissenting opinions. I thought we were big on dissent. Why when someone says something you disagree with, is that person suddenly a mole from the other side?
BTW, if anyone's getting ready to flame me for being a newbie closet freeper, I'm not. I'm a returning oldie.

Perhaps my expectations for JE were too high last night, but I was glad as hell that he held his own against cheney. More importantly, I think the stature gap is now between cheney and bush, not cheney and Edwards. I suppose you could call that a clear victory. I just didn't love edwards last night, and I usually do. His remarks about mary cheney were particularly unappealing to me. So call it nit-picking if you wish, but isn't that what analysis is about?

you sound like those people who say that criticism of the war helps "the enemy." I really doubt anything said in these forums will change public opinion (and ultimately, the vote) much.

I take a lot of chances in my personal life by expressing unpopular views...in fact my job has been threatened and I have been personally targeted at work for harassment. So...I value all differing opinions.

Ignore those who dismiss critical people as trolls or freepers. They are the extreme members of this party that are no better than the extreme members of the Religious Right. I got attacked by them on Randi Rhodes, so much so that I ended up getting banned (right down to my MAC address!!). I was called a troll, flamer, neocon and freeper. None of the people throwing these accusations bothered to look at my site, or any of my previous posts to see that in fact this wasn't the case....but oh well. Its a shame too cuz I love Randi Rhodes and that message board, but the moderators there BLOW and there are as many extreme left wing members that do not take criticism at all. Screw em. post, and, while not having seen the whole debate, disagreed that JE NEEDED to hit a grand slam, but it certainly would have helped begin to salt the game away. Especially with resurgent momentum after Pres Debate #1. A JE grand slam would have left us up a few runs going into the ninth. Looks more like tied now with our team coming up to bat with the meat of our lineup in the bottom of the ninth. It'd be a lot better to be up a few runs.

The minute you have anything slightly critical to say about Kerry/Edwards the sheeple of the Democratic party jump all over you. This is the reasons why i may leave DU after Kerry is in office. Even though it's a close race, we STILL need dissenting voices in the party and at DU.

IMHO, nobody is beyond criticism-- not even the Presidential or Veep candidates. Edwards did okay last night, but he missed some serious point-scoring opportunities on Cheney. And he also let Cheney get away with his "what about the Iraqi defense forces?" bullshit comment not once, but TWICE. He should have nailed that sucker head-on instead of just repeating the stump speech.

No matter what happens Nov 2, the real work begins Nov 3. Even with K/E in office, will we really see universal health care? The relinquishing of US control over Iraq? An end to the 'war on drugs'? The total repeal of the Patriot Act?

I doubt it. It just makes it a little easier. But I don't expect K/E to become progressive champions overnight.
