The $100 Philly Cheesesteak

A cheesesteak prepared by Barclay Prime's executive chef Todd Miller is pictured at the restaurant in Philadelphia Tuesday Oct. 5, 2004. This version of the traditional Philadelphia sandwich, made with Kobe beef, melted Taleggio cheese, shaved truffles, sauteed foie gras, caramelized onions and heirloom shaved tomatoes on a homemade brioche roll bushed with truffle butter and squirted with homemade mustard, is served with a small bottle of champagne and sells for $100 at Stephen Starr's Barclay Prime opening Tuesday. 3. Bleech...
foie gras and truffles on a cheese steak :puke: Give me a South Philly Pat's steak dripping with cheese wiz while breathing in exhaust fumes any day of the week.

Dammit, now I want a Pats steak

4. Brioche? Taleggio? Truffles?
I bet dollars to doughnut holes only out-of-towners will eat it.

A philly cheesesteak is made from shaved round or rib eye on an italian roll with American, provolone or wiz. No other cheese need apply.

6. Snobby food always sucks
even if it tastes good. Oh, and why the hell does everyone think foie gras is so special? My guess, is because it sounds "gourmet" and it's expensive. I'll take Braunschweiger at $3.99/pound.

9. Fuckin' gourmets ruin everything...
Sometimes, cheap and uncomplicated is the best way to serve some foods. This annoys me along with that $100 cheeseburger in NYC. Just because it cost more, doesn't mean its better!

11. How about the 2500$ omelet
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 03:57 PM by KDLarsen
I saw it on Late Show with David Letterman once - it's made with lobster and all sorts of crazy stuff.

Besides, the 100$ cheesesteak is nothing new - just ask anyone who have just recieved their Private Pilots License :D
