Ohio State - 2002 National Champions, now and forever
http://www.cantonrep.com/index.php?Category=17&ID=120031&r=1

Television reports out of Cleveland have said OSU’s national championship victory at the Fiesta Bowl against Miami could be in jeopardy based on the Clarett investigation.

That simply is not correct.

There is a notion out there that if Clarett accepted improper gifts that would have rendered him ineligible last season, Ohio State would have to forfeit games, leading to being stripped of the national title.

First, the NCAA does not sanction a national champion in football. It never has. Not only that, but as an institution, Ohio State has been cleared in matters as they relate to Clarett. OSU Athletics Director Andy Geiger said that two weeks ago.

This is about the sixth time this has been put into the public domain by the media. By now, Ohio State officials are getting tired of it.

“How many times do we have to explain it?” Buckeye Sports Information Director Steve Snapp said. “The NCAA has cleared the university in this investigation.”

Nuff said. Quit getting your hopes up, sit down, and finally accept that Ohio State is, and always will be, 2002's National Champion.

Clarett's an idiot. He blew it. He's gone. I don't want him on my team if he can't play by the rules.

Thank you, Jim Tressell, for having the presence of mind to sit him out this year before the poop hit the fan. We'd be 0-2 if you had played him, so thank you.

You may resume your crying about bad calls (while convienetly ignoring 5 turnovers and a failure to gain a single yard in the final 4 plays). But nobody's gonna change the outcome of that game. Not Maurice Clarett, not the NCAA, not anybody.

1. So that gust of wind was the collective exhale of Buckeye Nation?

2. Or Taco Bell
None the less, OSU is one of the two Ohio teams I respect.

The less said about the Cincy "Bungles" or the "Weds," the better.

3. Well put.
It's a shame that MC13 did what he did. It is now becoming apparent that he isn't a guy OSU needs to be involved with anymore. I wish him luck, as does the rest of the Buckeye Nation, I'm sure, but Ohio State simply doesn't need to put up with shit like this.

I you want to know the truth, I feel worse for Clarett than I do the team and fans, at least in the long run. OSU will be fine. I don't know if Clarett will. Now he needs to sue the NFL, play in Canada, or transfer (all these are assuming no jail time). None of these options are pallatable. I'll bet Clarett would like to have the last 12 months back. Hopefully, he'll grow from this.

4. I agree...
....but if we had been forced to give up the NC, I'd have dragged Maurice out of his home and beat him to within an inch of his life.

Well, no I wouldn't. I'm a respectable citizen, you know. Just say no, kids.

5. One man does not bring down a National Championship
This is Horseshit... OSU is the 2002 NC champs no if's and's or Buts about it.
What do they do if they take it away? Award Miami the NC...We don't want it under those circumstances...

Now if multiple players and coaches were involved with cheating then that's a different story. I don't see this even remotely being the case... MC13 did not win the Fiesta all by his lonesome so don't punish the rest of the team.

Now about that Ref..;-)

6. Thanks....
....now, if Krenzel does it, I'm gonna slam my head in a door several hundred times.

There was no precedent for taking it away anyway...the closest thing was when Charles Woodson was discovered taking money, somewhere around the 1997 NC that Michigan split with Nebraska....and the precedent set in that case was to let it go.

7. Yes
Now, let's talk about Michigan thumping them later this year when Perry puts up a good 200-250 yards

11. 2 and 3????
Edited on Wed Sep-10-03 09:26 AM by AWD
How about 1 and 2????

My wife this morning asked if OSU and UM have ever played for the NC before? Is there a possibility for that?

I think so. We'd have to be 1-2, the game be VERY close, and the 3rd and 4th ranked teams get knocked off.

Could happen.

on edit - of course, that would mean a 40+-day "Michigan Week". Even I don't have enough bad jokes to lastthat long.

12. Unless Oklahoma loses
1-2 isn't going to happen. And even if they were, the loser would end up 3 or 4, no matter what. It would be nice, but I think what would essentially be a play-in game for the National Championship would be pretty damn good.

17. Better yet....
Ask Miami fans what it's like to have 5 NC's and be the Preeminent college football team the last 2 decades.

We've got an answer for that... Do the rest of you?

19. Yeah, Linfield
Three national championships and a string of winning seasons dating back to the Eisenhower administration.

Who are these "Miami" people of whom you speak? Do they pay for the services of their players like these other pretenders or do they only field teams of athletes that play for love of the game (i.e. no athletic scholarships)?
