Check it out: "The Goldwaters Sing Folk Songs to Bug the Liberals!"
First read about this album in Incredibly Strange Music, vol. 2. Check out the cover (these guys are fucking scaaary looking):

And check out this great site devoted to early-60's politics and the nuclear build up, where there's an in-depth investigation of "The Goldwaters."

Apparently, these guys were recruited by some music industry honcho with conections to the GOP in Nashville, TN (I lived there for five years; I'm not terribly suprised that somebody in Nashville though this was a good idea) to sing anti-liberal "folk" songs during the height of the folk music boom. There's some great sound clips of the tunes off this album on the above site.

Anyhow....a weird slice of history. Enjoy!

3. Could be!
The redhead looks like Scott Robinson (sp?), The Repub Convention kicker.

One of the songs features a line about dousing Joan Baez with napalm. Awesome! Good to see that not much has changed in the GOP for the last fifty years....same old humorless rich white brats on campus, same old creepy rich old white men pulling the strings.

4. The irony of this all is that Barry Goldwater
would be an outcast in his own party today. Before his death I remember him expressing fear at who was running the gop nowadays.

5. Goldwater would join...
Abe Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower and Richard Nixon(!) as 'persona non grata' in todays Republican party.

Lincoln: Pro Civil Rights, Anti States Rights
Roosevelt: Anti Big Business, Pro Enviorment
Ike: Pro Civil Rights, Anti States Rights
Richard Nixon: Soft on communism, 'lost' Vietnam

8. And then there's the incomparable Bob Roberts
"Some people will work
Some people will not
But they'll complain and complain and complain and complain and complain....."
