Poll question: Are high school cheer leaders supposed to be sexy?
My girlfriend and I are having a "discussion" about this. What do you think?

7. I think

that the nature of the role, i.e. jumping around with lots of enthusiasm, a certain degree of flexibility, etc. forces a cheerleader to become reasonably fit, like any athlete, and a healthy, fit bosy, is pretty much always sexy, at the physical level.

edit to add: whether they're "supposed" to be sexy, I think it is an inevitable result of the work entailed in being a cheerleader.

8. I remember this one particularly vulgar chear at pep rallies...
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 11:04 PM by barking_23
Where after getting everyone whooped up the cheerleaders would line up and then bend over exposing their panties that were in the school colors to cheering and whistling...

I bet they don't do that anymore (that was the early 80s)...

12. I can picture that, but vulgar isn't what comes to mind
Our school mascot was the Eagles and we had great cheerleaders. At basketball games and wrestling matches they would flip their skirts revealing a sketch of an eagle on their backsides. Very impressive backsides, I might add.

We had cheerleaders as early as 7th grade. They were sexy at that point, as long as the right guy was picking the squad.

23. Yeah, now its *thongs* in the school colors...
...some squads have definitely crossed the line from 'girl-next-door wholesomeness' to Aqualung/Lolita territory.

13. NFL cheerleaders promote sex.. What next "working" the goal posts like.
the poles in strip bars?

Ever notice how many porn films use "actresses" in cheerleader uniforms (that is what I have been told)!

15. Sounds good to me. If football got strippers then kids wouldn't...
be brought along by their patents. Which means 2 good things for me. 1) more tickets to be had. 2) an environment that is more encouraging for the consumption of alcohol and the use of foul language

28. Actually very few Porn vids use cheerleader uniforms.
I'd know. If they did, I'd own nothing BUT porn vids in my collection.

10. They're appealing because
They are those 'unattainable' girls that most guys couldn't get in high school. So they fetish-ize the whole thing as adults.

11. There are a lot of sexy girls
So if you and your girlfriend have this problem she is jealous of youth and you are giving her reason to be.

although I am biased towards flat chested geeky girls, so my opinion may not count.

Reason number 1 why my daughter will never become a cheerleader: Googling cheerleader under images tab. :hi:

19. Depends on what you mean
they are young, energetic, and (usually) healthy athletes. So they are sexually appealing to other high school students by default. There's nothing wrong with that.

If you're talking about cheerleading squads that perform as though they are in a "gentleman's club"... I don't think cheerleading is supposed to look like that. And I thought it was sleazy even when I was in high school.

20. It's the objectification of women, as institutionalized in schools.
Although there are dress codes in the hallways and classrooms of schools that prohibit showing too much skin, thighs and panties of the elite "cheerleader" girls are shown as a bright promise of what is come: nookie for the boys, and sexual objectification for the girls.

24. Sexual classism
It is important for a class-based society to establish a hierarchy of winners and losers early on, to promote the idea of the haves and the have-nots as natural. The football player, the cheerleader - the active participants, the leaders as it were - are the winners in the sexual society. The rest - the spectators - are condemned to a life of voyeurism and frustration.

The answer to the original question is "yes, obviously."
