can anyone recommend houseplants that don't need much light...
that are readily available? i have done some `redecorating' of my small bedroom and would like some plants. i live in a building, with no a/c in the summer so it gets warm. during winter it's fairly chilly in here. there's a window and i get ambient but not direct sunlight throughout the day, but the plants wouldn't necessarily be right close to the window. right now i have a parlor palm that does well with very limited light. shoot me some suggestions! (ha ha.)

House plants can really liven up any room. Philodendrons, airplane plants, and Swedish ivy are some of the easiest plants to grow. I've always had luck with Dracenas, both the classic dragon plant, and the corn plant, as long as I don't over water them. Pothos and Nephthytis do well in low light situations. And for a shelf or ledge out of reach, I've found silk plants to be an excellent choice. They never wilt, never need fertilizer or repotting, and never have dead leaves. You do need to dust them once in a while, however.

The Master Gardener from "Gardening by the Yard" on HGTV says ZeeZee plants are the easiest houseplant to grow. I've seen them at the nursery, but I haven't tried one yet.
