Does this really work?
I'm considering having this procedure performed. Years of loud music and even a stint working the flight deck aboard an air craft carrier have damaged my ears, I'm sure of it.

Has anyone ever had this done? Where you happy with the results?

3. Yes and I am hearing that it is a hoax.
Even if it wasn't, all it does is clean the ears, not repair them. You are better off getting your ears cleaned at the doctor's office...

5. Is that "candling"?
I've heard from some people that it's made their ear problems worse. It's probably different for everyone.

7. Ear candling?
I don't know what it does for hearing, per se. I know someone who had it done, and they likened it to a detoxing experience for the ears (general well-being). But, hey, what do they know. Google it.

10. How are you going to get someone to let you do that to them?
I have no idea how lighting a candle in someone else's ear would help your hearing.

15. You'd be surprised at what some people have let me do to them.
Sometimes candles were involved, sometimes ears. But I've never had the pleasure of putting the two together.

11. I have enough wax in my ears, thank you!
Have to have them cleaned out 2x a year so I can hear again ... and no, my doctor doesn't use this method to clean them.

24. She flushes them out with water ...
Sometimes it's a little (well, actually big) needle looking thing that they put into my ear and flush a peroxide/water mix into my ears. The pressure moves the wax and cleans it out. They have a new tool though that is hooked up directly to the sink so they don't have to stop and keep refilling the "needle looking thing."

At first I hated getting it done, but now it's not so bad. It's worth it to hear again. And when the pressure is out of my ears they feel a lot better. Sometimes there is "dark" wax in there that will cause my ears to feel like I have an ear infection or something ... and when that is removed it feels SO much better! Worth it!

17. Honestly I would go get it done by a doctor
I have heard of this, but I have never done it. I take my ears a little more seriously these days.
When I was 7 my cousin stuck a stick through my ear drum. About 6 months later my sister slapped me and I turned my head, her hand was cupped and it blew the same eardrum.
I too have played in many a loud bands and I'm sure it has done some damage over the last 25 years.
About 10 years ago I had an earache so I put hydrogen peroxide in my ears, I ended up having infections in both ears, I finally DID go to the doctor when my one ear started bleeding.
After that, I decided to let the doctor take care of the ears, so I don't know if I would want to try to extract wax out of my ears with a candle. Just my opinion.

18. Go to an ear specialist, preferably at a teaching hospital.
I have periodic ear infections, and they use this gizmo that vacuums out your ear. It is a most effective procedure. Letting someone flood your ear with water to flush out the gunk is passe and can lead to infections. After the gunk is out(if you have gunk) your hearing can be accurately tested, and then the doc can possibly come up with a solution.

21. Pure Quackery
Ear candles literally do nothing.

The wax that builds up in the bottom of the candle, usually cited as evidence of it working, actually comes from the candle itself.

If you want to clean your ears, go get one of those kits that have a syringe bulb and some peroxide drops to loosen the wax.
