What was your graduating class from High School?
If someone else graduated the same year as you, reply to their post so for instance, if someone says "82", and you graduated in '82, then reply to that post.

If I stuck around long enough to graduate. I took the GED and moved to San Francisco. Which I have forever been happy about. High School sucks!

That was when I was 16, right? In the UK we then optionally go to Sixth Form for two years before University at 18.

I swear, SOteric has explained the American System to me two or three times - I just can't hold it in my head.

Anyway, I'm going to stick with the '84s even if I should be over in the '86s because you guys are more fun.

Morristown High School, Morristown, NJ.

Our Fight Song
(To the tune of the Notre Dame Fight Song)

"Cheer, cheer for Morristown High.
You bring the whiskey, I'll bring the rye.
Send the freshmen out for gin
And don't let a sober sophomore in

Da-da-da-

We never stumble, we never fall,
We sober up on wood alcohol.
When we yell we yell like hell
For the glory of Morristown High."

185. '69 too
inner city high scool and that year we had demonstrations against the war - demonstrations by the Black Panthers to form a Black Student Union- a few lock-downs when the teachers were assaulted by students and plumbing was ripped out of the walls-
pot passed into classrooms through open windows - pot smoked on the campus - administrators looking the other way
It was a mess - but everyone cared about important things!

Thanks for the opportunity to walk down memory lane

I was supposed to graduate in 75, but I was out most of my sophmore year with Mono and had to take half a year of english. So I went to Salem NY (where my Dad lived) and enjoyed myself so much I stayed all year and graduated with them.

Should have been 1974, but I didn't show up for ninth grade the first time.

When Hillite varsity men fall in line
We're out to win that game another time
We're out to fight fight fight with all our might
We're out to fight fight fight fight fight and do it right
You ought to see that Hillite varsity
They are the ones who never ever yield
They're going to fight right on to victory
Victory for the Blue and Gold!!

MSchreader is also AHHS, class of 1990.
John
And, in 1973 (while I was there), the AHHS football team became the only squad in Michigan history to go undefeated, untied and unscored on (9-0, 443-0).

I have no idea what they might have done or not done. I don't remember any of their names. Most of my friends graduated in '76, and I was working and getting ready for life my senior year; I showed up for classes, went to work, and picked my diploma (with honors) up from the office a few weeks after the last day of school. Never bothered with the graduation ceremony.

I do know that Mare Winningham was at my high school at the same time; I think she was a class or two ahead of me.

Mare Winningham was in the class of 77' with you as were Kevin Fowler aka. Kevin Spacey and Val Kilmer. I didn't know that until about a year ago. I still have the 77'yearbook. Winningham's and Spacey's senior pictures are in it but not Kilmer's.

At the assembly where graduation robes were distributed, he told 2 guys they had to get haircuts before they could get their robes.

Their hair would have passed muster in the straightest corporate setting today. But, buzzcut Aggie that he was, he probaby suspected that things were about to get out of control.

He was right.

We were a class of baby boomers - my hs class was so big that I don't recognize most of the yearbook photos. We had 850 graduates. When the bell rang for class change, the mass of students would just grind to a halt in the halls as there was just no room to move. Do you remember having your sweater snagged on spiral notebooks? The awful red thin cotton knit swimsuits for boys and girls. Believe me, nothing was left to the imagination!

Each graduating class leaves a mural somewhere in the school. Since we got stuck with the year of nationalism/patriotism/jingoism on steroids, our mural was decided on by the school admin--picture of the WTC towers against an American flag background with "United we Stand 2002" emblazoned across the front.

In my senior year, we were finally allowed in wear slacks (not jeans) to school and leave school at lunch time. Our class trip was to Italy. It cost $419. for a 10-day round trip, which included air fare, hotels, meals, tours, tips, and ground transportation. Our flight to Rome was delayed because of the airline strike, so the airport gave us rooms at the airport hotel - I guess they didn't want more than 90 teenagers tearing loose in the airport. I doubt they'd do that today, but this was back before deregulation. I had the time of my life on that trip, oh, man, did I ever have fun. Memories are good for the soul. But I can't think of those days without thinking about Viet Nam; I can't seperate the two because that summer, two of my friends died in Nam. <sigh>

Edit - spelling

It certainly hung over all of our heads.....I knew some kids that flunked senior year on purpose to avoid the draft and graduated at age 19 or 20. My boyfriend had a college deferrment until the lottery was instituted....he had a low draft number but then was deferred because of asthma. One of my classmates died in 'Nam........RIP, Dennis Baker, Lance Cpl, Marine Corps.

Anway.......wow.......a trip to Italy!!!! Our senior trip was a day trip to NYC........where alot of the kids who were 18 bought booze for the younger ones........many suspensions after that trip! (Not me, though......the hippie contingent was way too cool to go!)

176. 68! We were Great!!!
I wasn't a guy (and am still not) but I remember watching my brothers and my male friends go off to "war." Also saw a lot of friends decompose before my eyes with drugs, sex and rock and roll. I served during the Vietnam war in the Army, thinking I could somehow make a difference. What a joke. The only thing they would let me do is type.

Our *class song* was "Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds, chosen in a nail-biter over USA for Africa's "We Are The World", which is fortunate as the latter would have caused me to :puke:.

246. hee! hee! We had an aging hippy as our class advisor -
Edited on Thu Sep-11-03 07:04 PM by Iris
he conviced us to collect 100s of t-shirts (Remember how they were sending them over to Africa?) and string them up during the end of the senior program while "We are the world" played. We had people dressed up like Cyndi Lauper and all the others.

But our class song was "I Miss You" by Climax (I think!) - none of the 50% of the white students had heard it but when the 50% of the black students played it for us, we were hooked!

God we were innocent.

175. we don't need no education
1980 was the coolest ever year to graduate! we could vote (against reagan), we had pink floyd as our class song (even if we couldn't actually play it on class night ;-) ), there was al franken, being AL FRANKEN, and the rest of the 80's was yet to hit.

ah well, i've learned to shrug about my idealism from back then. but i do remember loving my first ever time to vote!
