Anyone still up? Having a bit of an emotional meltdown over this war
I just read the article where bush concedes SH didn't have WMDs and doesn't have them now.

I have been sobbing my ass off for almost thirty minutes. I just can' take it anymore. Living in a world where black is white and up is down.

The death and destruction that they caused. That AMERICA caused. I am hanging my head in shame and I will NEVER FORGET that bush/cheney made me feel that way about America.

I feel like this isn't even my country anymore.

AFter the debate tomorrow night, I think I am going to take a total media blackout for a few days, if for nothing else than my emotional health. It's just all getting to me, and I really consider myself to be pretty strong and upbeat.

1. You sound fairly normal to me given the horror of our situation
We are all of us suffering from a bunker mentality. When Bush goes, it's gonna sound like the 4th of July and Armistice Day all rolled into one. We'll be dancing in the streets like the Who's from Whosville!

2. We're all there with you, Moonbeam.
We all deal with being lied to in different ways. I'm personally redirecting all of my feelings of helplessness to rage. This might not be the wisest choice, but things will change after we know Kerry is President-elect.

Just keep loved ones close. Stick to the blackout, if you feel it will help.

3. sorry for your meltdown

it happens to most everyone who pays attention. Sooner or later.
Today I guess is your turn.

It's a good plan to do a media blackout at this time. Turn your focus inward to your self, and those you love. Care for yourself, and do something to heal yourself.

I wish you well.

:loveya:

Can you post a link to it?

I'm appalled the Charlotte Observer didn't have it on front page. I bought both the Observer and USA today when David Kay was front page, but my repuke father threw them away.

I'm sorry you are having a rough time, there is nothin I can say, because I don't want to be glib or insulting. I'm glad to be among people who have enough compassion in their hearts to care.

Hope you feel better tomorrow.

18. Agreed
I feel the same way. It is disgusting and horrific. 25,000 civilians killed. For what? And it goes on and on and on and on..... Bush and Cheney are Nixon and Kissinger. They are total psychopaths. Nixon said to K: "The only difference between you and me is that you care about the civilian casualties." K replied: "I only care because I don't want you to look evil." It's on tape. I wonder what Bush and Cheney say behind closed doors. Look how they lie and brag about killing in front of cameras. What they say behind the camera must be flabbergasting. What assholes. Psychopaths. Liars. Murderers. Evil bastards. I am so sorry. So very sorry to be a part of this evil country.

15. What gets me about that whole situation
is how many Americans are giving Bush a pass knowing that we haven't found any wmds. That was the whole rational for the war. It means either one of two things. The Bush administration lied or they were highly incompetent. Either one is grounds to, at the very least, toss Bush out on his ass next election. And you can bet that if a Dem were in office and in the same situation that the Republicans would be calling for his head and initiating impeachment procedures.

It's more frustrating for me than saddening. It just pisses me off. Maybe you can channel some of that sadness into righteous anger and use it for motivation.

20. Oh I have in the past
but tonight it is sheer sadness. And I am mostly thinking about the Iraqis, the military and what bush co has done to our national mood.

Seriously, this is the point I am at now: if you vote for bush in november, you are voting for the immoral, unjustified deaths of thousands. You are saying that is just hunkey-dorey by you. And I can't take that.

Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 12:34 AM by TwentyFive
It's not just Bush, but look at what's happening in Congress. Tom Delay is a street thug who belongs in jail...but he is running Congress and praying to Jesus. Bills are no longer debated there, you know....republicans are told how to vote, or they lose their money.

Just today...Corporate taxes were cut by $136,000,000,000 on some companies, and raised by $136,000,000,000 on other corporations. Big tobacco & Oil did very well. Little businesses & workers are probably getting screwed.

We are losing our country, but it seems all so surreal. Big media is telling us that everything is ok. Yet, somehow, we know it's very wrong. I mean...shouldn't we be out in the streets, shouting? Why aren't we? Well, nobody else is....and big media is saying it's ok....yet our common sense is sounding the warning bells.

It's craziness....maybe tuning out for a while is a good thing. Everybody needs a rest.

22. Yes, I agree
And I have never been a bush or republican supporter.

The sadness of it all is just washing over me tonight.

In March of last year, every night, when I put my daughter to bed, I thought of mothers in Baghdad putting their children to bed and having to wonder "will tonight be the night? Will we survive?" and I would tear up just thinking about it. I never had to put my child to bed wondering if we'd make it through the night.

God.

21. This is something I've been thinking about lately...
The whole country is stressed out. Has anyone noticed. And I don't think it has anything - at this late date - to do with 9/11. It's all bush's fault. Some of us are worried about being attacked. Some of us are upset at the stark divisions between the left and right. Some are upset at the numbers of people dying because of the war. This is what life is like in wartime (imagine what it would be like to be an Iranian civilian). Get used to it, I'm afraid. We will have to deal with the fallout from this shit for the next 20 years.

THIS IS A NEOCON NIGHTMARE!

This man must go.

Hugs, Moonbeam.

He has been so bad for the FEEL of our country. No optimism, no hope, just fear fear fear fear fear.

It wears on you after a while, even when you DON'T drink the kool aid.

There are a lot of us that feel the same way.....

A media blackout might be just what you need. Take the opportunity. Appreciate what's wonderful and great or at least what's beautiful... Hope you're having some good weather at least.

Seriously, most of us feel like it's not our country anymore....

Take a well-earned break for a few days, if you need to.

Don't even wait for the debates, imho, get some well-needed rest from it all.

Watch the sunrise or watch the sunset...listen to a symphony...or your favorite music you haven't listened to in ages...

Count your blessings, because I'm sure there are many, even as I gasp at the ones disappearing.

It'll all still be here when you get back, but at least you'll feel refreshed.

Be well friend!

28. No TV "news" is good for the brain
:)

I'm a pretty laid back person normally, but I have this overwhelming, powerful hatred for the batch of right-wing nuts that run this country right now, and their bought-and-paid-for media. Yet, if I have a TV at hand, I can't stop watching it.

I can't blame you. Nov. 2 is right around the corner, though, and we need all the help we can get until then.

but I do read quite a bit of news on the internet and in newspapers.

I am thinking after Friday night (hitting the polls and sending emails/feedback for the debate, I HAVE to do that) no newspapers, no internet news for me at least until Monday.

When I went on a 6000 mile two week road trip this summer and didn't see TV all that time (camping) I came home to find out about Edwards being the running mate!

You put it really well. This surreal world, the horror of it all. I just watched 'Hijacking catastrophe', which showed how the Bush people used propaganda to scare the Amer. people in the leadup to the war; and the TV accidentally flipped on in the middle of the movie and showed Bush TODAY talking about terror.

The nightmare that goes on and on and on.

37. As you can see
you're not alone. I have trouble sleeping and usually spend late nights reading INTERNET just TRYING to find that glimmer of hope that things will be sane again. I, too, agonize over the pointless loss of life and all the pain and sorrow that is evident. I have 3 draft age children that I worry for. Sometimes things just get so dark and when I think things just can't get any worse-they do.....but, there IS hope.
My brother is in the military and we've always been on the opposite sides-not this time. Hope!
We collectively hold our breath before the debates and, so far, we can exhale and unclench. Hope!
It feels like truth is being broadcast by the media. Hope!
When i get down, I go to the DNC (I don't know how to post links or I would do so) website and watch Jimmy Carter's speech at the Democratic convention. It gives me HOPE!
Take a nice walk in the sunshine (I hope it'll be a nice day for you wherever you are :^) ) tomorrow. Nature is a great soother.
Sending you happy thoughts in the meantime. hang in there and keep positive.

But the best we can do is keep talking truth-to whoever will listen. And HOPEFULLY- so on, and so on, and so on.... (That was a commercial for shampoo that succinctly demonstated the power of "word of mouth" advertising)

50. This week I took a " media blackout " ...
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 02:04 AM by CarolinaPeridot
The other night I turned my tv to Turner Classic Movies - they were playing " That's Entertainment " Parts I , II and III ( featuring the MGM era of musicals with the likes of Gene Kelly , Fred Astaire , Ann Miller , Cyd Charisse ... it was the best night I had in a long time ) and I just escaped into a world of musicals because I needed to take my mind away from all things " political " . It was good .

I can no longer take the look or sound of George Dubya Bush or anyone else in this BS Administration without going into fits of rage ... I am done with crying that I have turned to rage and anger ... I am so torn up about the numbers of soldiers that will not be coming home for the holidays . The number is already almost 2,000 . I ask MY GOD , will it stop ! I can not stand this BS Adminstration . I lived in Germany since March 2001 - I came back HOME because I could no longer see my country rot away , and I tell you America is not looked upon good in the world anymore . I miss hearing " real news " while I was living in Germany . The American media is so assbackwards . The only real news is from a " fake " news show : The Daily Show . Who gives a shyt about Scott Peterson and Paris Hilton ?!?!?!? I don't . I came home because I wanted to vote in person , I did not believe that my absentee ballot would be counted . I am so ESTASTIC about going to polls on election day on November 2 .

Anybody that votes for Bush is a damn idiot ... I am not sorry for saying that . All of these adult and college age students who are my peers voting for Bush ( damn College Republicans ) make me sick . They think everything is so perfect . We should drop all of them in Iraq and send all of our soldiers home .

Although I took a media blackout , I did not forget about all the problems of the war and this country . Yes I agree , the NEOCONS are thugs but this is still OUR country . And we will show them that this is our country on November 2 . Damn sure we will ! I live in North Carolina , and you should see the numbers of Republicans who have either re-registered as Democrats or who will not be voting for Bush this November . I see Kerry/Edwards signs and bumper stickers and I get happy . I have NEVER seen people get this energized and come together in an election campaign before ...

And if the BFEE tries to steal this election again ( and we know they will ) we should not stand down . Look at what the people did in Yugoslavia , look at what they did in Georgia : they stormed the Parliament and took their country back . Don't sit on your couches , don't flee to another country , be a true American , and take your country back .

51. I'm angry, too
What an incredible loss of life there, and it turned out to be for nothing. When are conservatives and right-wingers going to actually get angry with this president? Why do they want a leader who makes stupid-ass excuses for his ineptitude and refuses to take responsibility for his actions? I can't believe it was this statement:

I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky...

that set right-wingers off and nearly brought down a presidency. Yet this statement:

"Our intelligence officials estimate that Saddam Hussein had the materials to produce as much as 500 tons of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agent. In such quantities, these chemical agents could also kill untold thousands. He's not accounted for these materials. He has given no evidence that he has destroyed them.

U.S. intelligence indicates that Saddam Hussein had upwards of 30,000 munitions capable of delivering chemical agents. Inspectors recently turned up 16 of them -- despite Iraq's recent declaration denying their existence. Saddam Hussein has not accounted for the remaining 29,984 of these prohibited munitions. He's given no evidence that he has destroyed them.

From three Iraqi defectors we know that Iraq, in the late 1990s, had several mobile biological weapons labs. These are designed to produce germ warfare agents, and can be moved from place to a place to evade inspectors. Saddam Hussein has not disclosed these facilities. He's given no evidence that he has destroyed them.

The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed in the 1990s that Saddam Hussein had an advanced nuclear weapons development program, had a design for a nuclear weapon and was working on five different methods of enriching uranium for a bomb. The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa. Our intelligence sources tell us that he has attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes suitable for nuclear weapons production. Saddam Hussein has not credibly explained these activities. He clearly has much to hide."

Invokes no response at all from conservatives. It is a surreal world.

52. I know what you're saying
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 02:06 AM by antiwarwarrior
It's quite possible that more than a few of the kids I knew from high school (I call them kids because that's what they are - they're no more a 'man' or a 'woman' than I am at my age) are in Iraq right now, and that thought absolutely sends me up the wall. I know it would be very hard for me to function if I got a phone call from someone saying "so-and-so has died in Iraq", regardless of how close I am with that person, how well I knew them, and so on, because they are a face I would recognize if I saw them somewhere around the town.

Even knowing for certain that someone I knew was even in Iraq at the moment would do not-so-nice things to my blood pressure right now.

Yikes. Sorry for the rant.

:)

EDIT: Oops - I meant to put this as a reply to #30.

53. Oh, come on. The most important piece
of information in the news right now is Laura Bush's announcment that SHE WILL BE WEARING BLUE TOMORROW!!! 'Cause you know that her and Theresa had such a fashion faux pas 2 weeks ago. So, this is what you need to think about and get over your sadness.

In all seriousness, I hope that you will feel better and stronger
in regards to these crazy social matters. But don't coun't on that happening to soon.
