4. Think of that fop English game, croquet.

A wicket is one of those things you put the ball through.

5. a british adult toy.
considering the normal adult brit has no clue about how to have sex that does NOT involve a paddle to one's rear end, the sticky part, unfortunately, cannot be fully described here. Not without violating several FCC statutes.

7. the post which the bowler tries to hit in cricket?
If you hit the wicket, the batter (only I don't think he's called that) is out- maybe?? I don't understand cricket too well

9. wicket
If the bowler (pitcher) tosses a ball and it hits the post thereby knocking off the bails (small plates on top of the posts) the batsman (batter) loses his wicket and is called 'bowled out'.

'Sticky wicket' is when the filed is in bad shape and makes for a hazardous game.

A batsman may stand in front of the posts in order to protect his wickets. In the event that the toss goes between his legs and the bails are knocked off, this is called between the wickets.

17. It would
have to be a kind of quantum thing, but if the bowler's ball hit both the batsman's testicular rotundities, his right one would be his "off" one, and his left one, his "leg" one. As for his middle wicket.....

13. don't forget the wicked 'googly'
From Wikpedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Googly

n cricket, a googly is a type of delivery bowled by a leg spin bowler.

While a normal leg break spins from the leg to the off side, away from a right-handed batsman, a googly spins the other way, from off to leg, into a right-handed batsman. The bowler achieves this change of spin by rotating his wrist from the normal leg break delivery so that the ball rolls out the back of his hand with a clockwise spin (from the bowler's point of view).

This change of wrist action can be seen by a skilled batsman and the change of spin allowed for when playing a shot at the ball. Less skilled batsmen, or ones who have lost their concentration, can be deceived completely, expecting the ball to move one direction off the pitch, only for it to move the other direction. If the batsman is expecting a leg break, he will play outside the line of the ball after it spins. This means the ball can either strike the pads for a potential LBW appeal, or may fly between the bat and the pads and hit the wicket.

The googly is a major weapon in the arsenal of a leg spin bowler, and can be one of the bowler's most effective wicket-taking balls. It is used infrequently, because its effectiveness comes mostly from its surprise value.

15. hmmm...
I will watch a sport where players slap each other's butts,

I will watch a sport where players spend the majority of the game sitting on a bench scratching themselves and spitting sunflower seeds

I will even watch a sport proporting to use "stock" equipment even though the only thing "stock" about it is.....well, nothing really.

I will even watch a sport that uses brooms as playing gear, and no, I am not refering to Quidich.

But, I don't think I could ever watch a sport that uses the word googly.

19. "googly"
sorta like "knuckle-ball"

cricket is a fun sport (skill-wise and action-wise) but international matches take too long

the modified game (called = "limited overs") is a lot more fun than are ODI's (one day internationals) or tests or fixtures

20. The old dams on rivers were wicket dams. There were large wooden

beams or wickets that were attached to a concrete or stone base and
hinged so they could be raised or lowered to control water flow. At
low water times all of them could be raised to make a solid wall and keep the water level up, when they wanted to lower the water level they would lower some of the wickets. We took a class trip (about 5th grade) to a wicket dam on the Ohio river. After 45 years I get to use that useless information. Who knows maybe some day I will have a use for Algebra or Plain Geometry.
