Do you think Biggie Smalls had something to do with Tupac's murder?
I was watching VH-1's "And You Don't Stop: 30 Years of Hip Hop" last night, and they were talking about the East Coast/West Coast Rappers feud -- most notably the rift between Tupac and Biggie.

What do you guys think?

I never considered Biggie a thug, but anything's possible.

3. Really? I didn't know that
I knew he dealt drugs, but hell, dealing drugs doesn't make one a thug.

8. In NYC at that time
it did.....that whole scene was pretty hectic. All of redhook projects were a crackden, dealers were taking over whole buildings, guarded with Uzis. every streetcorner in the hood was run by one set of kids or the other, reporting up the ladder a bit. it was craziness.

13. Yeah, pretty much. I don't know how one
goes about getting prior issues of Life magazine, but they actually did an expose on Redhook Projects at that time.

Actually more like "New Jack City" meets "The Corner".

I don't know. I don't follow hip/hop so my guess would be as good as nothing. :hi:

Yes -- Biggie was murdered in LA several months after Tupac
was murdered in Las Vegas.

32. There has been some evidence that acquaintances of Suge
Knight MAY HAVE been involved in Biggie's murder, but I haven't heard anything to suggest that Biggie really had anything to do with Tupac's murder, or the first shooting of Tupac. I heard an interview with Biggie where he said that he confronted Tupac about all the hype and Tupac said "Man, all I'm trying to do is sell some f'in records."

I love Biggie, he is the best rapper ever IMHO, there is just nothing like his delivery, although I hate the way he treated Faith and Kim.

What a useless and tragic loss to the world of these two men. Like Biggie's Mama said "No, they don't live by the gun, they only DIE by it."

I have been wanting to start a thread on these VHI-docs for a week, because they have been AWEWSOME, but it didn't know if there are that many rap fans around here. I am so grateful to God that Sean Combs is around doing what he is doing to get people to register and vote, all his commercials on MTV have blown me away. He said the other day "We went into this music thing, and we took it over, then we went into this fashion thing, and we took it over, now we're in this politics thing, and we're gonna take it over too." Every time I see him do anything regarding politics it makes me want to jump up out of my seat. He is THE man, and I am so grateful something so positive came out of gangsta rap.

35. cool book on subject L.A.barinth
written as told by a police officer who was told to shut up about stuff he found out some scary stuff about suge seems like they all bought into the thug thing for attention even when they weren't real gansters,it got way out of hand. It's a good book about G.rap and the L.A.P.D. & the boods & Crips. Tom Hayden knows alot about this stuff and is working with gangs. Suge had alot to do with it all.

36. I just saw something on "And you don't stop" tonight that gave me
chills.

Maybe I have been on D.U. too long and the tinfoil is getting to me, but they had a show on Afeni Shakur, and they had interviewed someone that said that for the last three weeks of his life, Tupac was more and more adamant to Suge about seeing his financial records at Death Row.

When Afeni sued, they found so much crap in there that wasn't right, Tupac was being charged for people's houses, people's car repairs, they were f*cking him every which way but loose.

I almost wonder if Suge had him murdered. Strange to say, but they said Tupac had over 150 unreleased recordings and maybe Suge felt that he could make more money off of them because Tupac was getting in more and more trouble and was probably gonna end up doing time.

But on advice Afeni got a lawyer and an accountant and got a settlement out of Suge and got rights to Tupac's music. Now his estate is worth about 150 million $

of human beings.

So that makes it more significant then Britney Spears' pubic hairs.

Unless you don't really consider them human.

Were you aware that "lowlife thug" has become code for "filthy nigger" or was your use of it just an unfortunate coincidence?

I was and never said anything of the sort concerning the "N" word. Don't put words into my mouth. This thread about these two deceased thugs has gotten ridiculous now--watch the E or Biography if you want the scoop. It's all irrelevant now really.

31. What is this hero worship over scumbags?
Over highschool-dropout criminals, drug dealers, and pimps? Are people so desperate for entertainment that they think "thugs" are cool? Would they like some of these "thugs" living next door to them? I doubt it. People like Tupac represent the dumbing-down of America. Essentially, they embody everything we hate in republicans... they are selfish, ignorant, violent, self-centered, dishonest theives.

34. I feel like thugs don't make music because they are too
busy being thugs.

They aren't artists.

Artists may sing about thugs, and may have once been in that definition, but even 50 cent only spent 6 weeks in jail.

It's called "image", or "street cred."

Although I'll bet that LAPD officer had something to do with Biggie's murder.

Biggie was a thug, but he wasn't gunning for Tupac.

The whole thing is one big beautiful, horrible Shakespearean tragedy. Somebody should write a play about it.

33. I have been watching these docs all week
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 01:22 AM by jdjkkse
some of them I have seen 2 or 3 times. I am eating them up.

I didn't know that Biggie was a straight A student until he got drawn to the streets.

I didn't even know Will Smith scored 800 on his English SAT's and was accepted into MIT, even though I knew he was brilliant.

I'm so glad someone finally started a thread on them.

They are amazing, and I especially like the ones that talk about the earliest days of rap, it brings back so many memories...my little brother could break dance like anything, he was especially good at popping and locking, I LOVED Run DMC (of course everyone did back then) and I remember hearing "The Message" and thinking "that is different from anything I've ever heard before on this planet.

I think this is actually the best programming I have ever seen on VH-1. Ever.

I didn't know "Baby Got Back" was banned from MTV, that seems so ridiculous now...I think rap threw female sexuality into the face of middle-class white feminism and changed it forever, I've been a Lil' Kim fan from day one and it gets me riled like anything when people refer to her as "pseudo-feminist"...I'll stop now.
