I need some help - My husband and I got invited to a halloween party
and the theme is Hollywood (normally, I go as a beauty queen with the sash "Miss Understood," but that won't do). I need some ideas for costumes that are clever without being outrageously expensive. Keep it clean, but give me your thoughts. Thanks.

2. How about Marilyn Monroe?
A white dress and a blonde wig can do wonders. Blonde hair is also good, of course.

6. It's not a clean one...
but the ultimate costume: dress as Jenna and Babs Bush--wear skin-tone bodywear as you both seem naked and pile on lots hair around the genital area and put the names Jenna and Babs on them and call yourself the Bush twins! Or you can dress as George and Laura--George with a spoon of coke and Laura with her dime bags.

9. I did this one year....
....we went as "rabbits." Hubbie in a "Harvey" rabbit suit, and me in a Playboy bunny suit. (That was before I got old and my figure when South!)

Bogie and Becall is always a good one. Trench coat and fedora for him, net cocktail hat and padded shoulder (fake) fur coat for her.

There is always the Blues Brothers.

And....you could always go dressed in black with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star on your chest for someone famous.

That is just off the top of my head....if I can think of more....will come back. Hope you have a great time!

12. I am starting to like the Bogie and Bacall one - my husband
would actually go for that (he's a bit conservative - in his manner, not his thinking). But, keep em' coming!

29. I always liked the Bogie and Becall thing, too.
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 06:12 PM by Hepburn
Bogie, IMO, was a sharp dresser and if your hubbie is conservative in his dress, that would be something he would go for. The only down side I can see is that a lot of people might think of this one.

Hmmmmm.....I guess there is always Fred and Ethel Mertz!!!!

15. How about a lobotomized Francis Farmer?
draw a scar on your forehead and walk around acting semi-catatonic. A fringe benefit would be that you could relax not having to worry about being particularly articulate.

24. My favorite couple costume....
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 05:29 PM by GloriaSmith
Two years ago, I put on a Texas Longhorns t-shirt and jeans, got drunk, and went as Jenna Bush. My husband wore a suit, sunglasses, and an ear phone thing in one ear and went as my secret service agent.

27. or you could go as a politician and a spin doctor!
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 06:03 PM by Lisa
The spin doctor follows the politician around and loudly explains what s/he "really means". I think the outlay would be pretty cheap -- the politician just has to wear a "vote for me" button, and the spin doctor has a pocketful of "political consultant" business cards!

If there are any rabid GOPers coming who might be offended, you could just hint (wink, wink) at who the politician is.

--just realized -- you did say "Hollywood" theme -- this could be modified to be a filmmaker (artsy type in a beret and bangles, or the Spielberg type in a baseball cap and Hawaiian shirt) with an PR person or agent in more business-type attire -- busily trying to push the outline for a very farfetched film on the partygoers.

Or you could go as Michael Moore and Lionel Chetwynd, and spend the whole party arguing with each other!

Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 05:49 PM by SoCalDem
black and made an abayah.. I had on cut-offs and a tee shirt underneath, so as the evening wore on, I took the sheet off and was the most comfortable one at the party :)
