Poll question: Best Pre-DSOTM Pink Floyd Album
Personally this is my favorite era, raw Floyd. Not that I don't like DSOTM and after, but this stuff just melts me to the core.

12. nope...that would be One of These Days...
(I'm going to cut you into little pieces).

That's the opening track of the album, and it does have a piece of the Dr Who theme is the synth section.

David Gilmour on the lap steel?? Fugetaboutit!!

4. Gotta agree
Although Piper ain't nothing to sneeze at...

Still, Meddle is Waters/Gilmore finally finding their groove post-Syd.

11. I miss ya's there in So Cal NSMA ....
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 05:59 PM by Trajan
Except for this very moment, when MO is cool and CA is burning hot ....

I will surely miss trips to Yosemite, and the Kern ... and Refugio Beach, ... and Palm Springs, ... and date shakes at Hadley's and stuff like that ....

Damn ...

Anyhow: I first heard 'One of These Days' on KNAC in the early 70's ... what a great intro ...

Remember KNAC (105.5 in Long Beach) ? ...

I was introduced to SO much great music there ....

Fuck: Im old ...

7. I love Piper,
but it's Syd's and it totally different from any other Pink Floyd album...even Saucerful of Secrets which followed it and had Jugband Blues on it.

It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here
And I'm most obliged to you for making it clear
That I'm not here.

And I'm wondering who could be writing this song....

So I have to say #1 is Piper, #1a is Meddle

8. Meddle
But I must say, I fell in love with Pink Floyd via Ummagumma. I walked into a party and there was this intense music playing (Careful With That Axe, Eugene) and I said, "what the hell is this?!"

It's been love ever since.

I do love the early Floyd but I think Dark Side, WYWH, Animals and The Wall are so technically perfect. It's almost like listening to two different bands, both phenomenal but completely different. Meddle is like a fusion of the two.

And then there's the Final Cut which is so Roger Waters. Love it, too but it's also in a league of its own.

14. ohhh A Final Cut fan???
...I a HUGE fan of that album...what's funny is that not too many PF fans like it. Yes, it is more of a Waters solo project with Pink Floyd slapped on it, but wow what a listen...especially in the times we live in :)

19. Interesting note
Roger had The Final Cut AND Pros and Cons demo'ed and let Dave and Nick pick which one to do under Pink Floyd. Dave said Pros and Cons wasn't "accesable" enough, so they did Final Cut. I think Dave contributed a lot to The Final Cut through his solos, and he did a good job singing "Not Now John"

plus I think the solo Gilmour did on that album were top notch, especially considering the circumstances.

18. I voted Meddle
But post DSOTM I would say WYWH. I fell in love with that album, and nothing got me thru a day when I was a wannabe-guitarist hormone-filled teen like laying on my bedroom floor on the shag carpet with the huge pioneer headphones on, and cranking WYWH on the Sansui 6060, while getting pleasantly buzzed...

I saw PF in 1977 at Soldier Field in Chicago. ANimals Tour.

I also saw Gilmour solo, which was a pretty damn good show.

20. Meddle
Because it was their first solid, post-Barrett album. And "Echoes" is my all-time favorite Floyd tune.
