1. ear plugs?
When I'm with my father during the summer I make sure to bring my headphones with all my liberal cds (mixed, Mellencamp, Dixie Chicks, etc) to drown out Rush. I also try not to get in any arguments cause a gal's gotta eat. And if by some weird chance they ask you to watch TV, they mean watch O'Reilly, Hannity, or Dennis Miller. I'd also suggest buying "The Best of the O'Franken Factor", or bringing a book. Depends on your situation, really.

2. it's group of relatives, all
around my age (47) and socio-economic class (upper middle). We are going to a hotel and to a footbal game, and the rest of the weekend will likely be spent dining and drinking. hopefully we will stick to tales of our college days and such.

3. Pray they do!
I really hope everything goes well, I know very well what it is like to be stuck with a group of repubs for an extended period of time. But it is a scary thing when everyone but yourself recoils at the mention of Kerry's name at the dinner table.

5. I know what you mean...I have a really, really good friend
who is probably the nicest person I've ever met. Then I find out he's a rw-er. Light topics are great to talk about, but he likes to steer it towards politics sometimes just to see my reaction.
