What music have you listened to lately?
Most recently:

CDs

James Taylor - Best Of James Taylor (has 20 songs - this is the one to buy as it's at regular price! For a huge James Taylor fan like me, this was the clear choice)

Bonnie McKee - Trouble (I give this an A+ and she's only 19! A must have)

At full album listening parties:

Minnie Driver - Everything I've Got In My Pocket: This is a boring CD except for the 2nd song

Rascal Flatts - Feels Like Today: Also nothing special

Tom Waits - Real Gone: I somewhat like Alice, but this music isn't my kind of thing. It could be good in its own way. I'll see if it becomes any better to me on repeated listenings.

Hilary Duff - self-titled: Well, the charms are kind of superficial. She still can't sing well at all. Sometimes it takes a person who likes pop music (as I do) a while to evaluate a pop CD. I don't think I'll be buying it. I give it a C which is now worse than Ashlee Simpson's CD (A C+.)

Holly Williams - The Ones We Never Know: finally one I liked a lot! It's folkier than Hank Sr.'s stuff.

I also heard Ryan Cabrera's "On The Way Down" and wasn't impressed.

9. Wierd mix: Killing Joke, Ojos de Brujo, Miles, Brian Wilson
The last four CDs I've listened to are:

1) The latest self-titled Killing Joke album, featuring Dave Grohl on drums. Possibly the best post-punk band in the world today;

2) "Bari", by Ojos de Brujo, a Barcelona group who combine hip-hop beats/samples with flamenco guitar and Arabic instrumentation;

3) "Smile" by the amazing Brian Wilson. One of the great "lost albums" of all time. Even after 37 years, it still sounds amazingly fresh and ambitious. It's hard to believe it was created by a 24-year-old.

4) "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis. A perfect weekend morning chill album if there ever was one. I didn't really care for this one at first, but it has grown on me over the last several years, and it's now one of my top ten "Desert Island" disks. The players, the numbers, everything is perfect.

Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 12:53 PM by CO Liberal
Mrs. CO Liberal couldn't sleep last night, so we went out for a ride around 4:00 a.m. We had K-LITE (106.3 FM in Colorado Springs) on the truck radio. Lots of KC & The Sunshine Band ("Im Your Boogey Man"), Van McCoy ("Do The Hustle"), and The Eagles("Witchy Woman").

And Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds ("Don't Pull your Love").

18. I recently bought Interpol's Antics
Very good CD - much improved from "Turn On The Bright Lights" IMO. I hear R.E.M. with a punk & arena bent.

23. Yes, very good cd...
I was disappointed the first few times I heard it, but I dig it now.

I still don't think it's as good as the first one, but very good in its own right.

20. I've been really into New Zealand music lately
Especially after reading about Wat_Tyler's new project. So I've been delving into some of my Flying Nun stuff - The Bats (esp. The Law of Things, which has my favorite song by them "Smoking Her Wings" on it), The Chills, The Clean and the Dentists.

I have also been reaching way back to other NZ acts from the '60s like the La-Di-Das, the Bluestars and the Chants R&B.

21. I (heart) the Chills
I just pulled out "Heavenly Pop Hits" from storage (house is in remodelling hell), and gave it another listen. WOW. "Pink Frost" is still amazing all these years later.

Gotta hand it to the Kiwis. :)
