NYT: Detroit Tigers may become history's worst...
This is pretty good--I gather the Tigers are looking good to overtake the 1962 NY Mets for the worst baseball season in recorded history. Their current record: 37-106.

It's a funny article--has some great Casey Stengel stuff from the 62 Mets season.

1. Perhaps the funniest thing...
Or the saddest is that the owner, Mike Illitch said he needed a new $300 million stadium to put a winning team on the field. They've been awful ever since they moved into their new ballpark. It's the "Curse of Cobb!"

3. The "defensive catcher who can't catch"
was the euphoniously named Choo Choo Coleman. Casey was also saddled with Marvelous Marv Throneberry, famed for turning doubles and triples into singles by forgetting to step on the bases he passed.

4. So sad.
I grew up listening to Tigers games on the radio. The day they signed Sparky Anderson as manager was one of my happiest days. Trammel, Parrish, Whitacker, Morris, Mark "The Bird" Fidrich. Even when I moved away from Michigan, I still followed the team. It is sad to hear how far they have fallen.
