Lost In The Supermarket - on a ^&#!@^ Saturday
Nothing fuels my raging misanthropy more than the fucking DOLTS who populate and infest the local supermarket on Saturday afternoon. :grr: :nuke:

Of course, I could have waited until a quieter, later time, but then I would have no beer.

1. I went shopping today too
wearing my veterans for kerry button. A total stranger came up to me, asked if I saw the debate, put his hand on my shoulder, and like it was a big secret told me how awful Bush was, and he can't believe we elected someone like that.

(I reminded him he wasn't elected.)

:)

4. and buying lunches for next week
And dinner for later... and so on... but on a sunny 70 degree afternoon on the plateau, I was thirsty.

And since I would rather gouge out my eyes and stab my brain than get up early on Saturday, I had to feed my contempt for humanity instead.

16. from '88 to '02
I endured 15 fucking Seattle falls (well, no 13, I spent two in Ellensburg, but I came home during holidays dammit), and I know the drill!

I tell ya... I love Seattle, but the dreary wet shit just depressed me to no end. My mood and well-being at this climate and latitude are so much better. No more SAD for me. And I am not in hell (PHX) either... too much the opposite of Seattle.

 Want a beer?

5. what I want to know
Is why people walk around looking like they lost 30 or 40 of their already considerably low IQ points when wandering around. Their eyes are glasses, their jaws slack... too many choices? Thinking about who to root for on "Survivor"? Thinking Bush is swell, and gawd bless Amerika?

6. The guy who scans my groceries....
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 05:21 PM by MADem
...told me the best day to shop is Tuesday, the best time, morning to midday. He's right. The shelves are restocked after the weekend crowds, and the place is usually more empty than not. I can get through the place at seventy miles an hour, grab my crap on the fly, and get out of there quick.

I hate supermarkets. I hate the lighting, I hate the hard, unyielding floors, the placement of the unadvertised stuff either on the floor or on the top shelf, and I hate waiting in line at deli counters. I hate everything about them except for the fact that the food is there!

I guess that is about enough hating for one day!

Edit--my lazy ass shoulda used spellcheck!

9. Human cattle
They wander aimlessly about, moving slowly, always in the way. They step out in front of you and cut you off, because the only time they're in a hurry is when they can inconvenience you.

I had no idea you were such a misanthrope, Zombie. I've always felt guilty about my misanthropy, but you wear it like a badge of honor. I should change my attitude and just accept who I am.

I FUCKING HATE STUPID PEOPLE!!!

10. Geez, my pet peeve!!!!!
Don't park your buggy on one side of the isle and stand on the other side. The buggy won't move much but I bet you will when I hit you.
Unless you are REALLY joined at the hip from some unfortunate birth defect, please let me pass you and your group! That also applies if I am overtaking you, I can't help it if you aren't paying attention and slow walking. I can't help it if you walk too damn slow
No, your child is not special, I WILL not steer my cart around your child. You should have taught the kid respect for his/hers elders. You should have control over the kid or leave it at home.
Crying babies- leave it at home. I enjoy that as much as you would enjoy my singing.

I know I sound like a shopping nazi but if people would be a little more aware and show some respect for other people we would all be better off.

Last year or so, I posted a thread about those fucking race car carts. Oh SHIT, did a 100+ post flame war result.

I have nothing to say about them today, because it was STRICTLY adults who vexed me this afternoon.

19. I do recall the posts.
The children are not to blame- just a product of their "slack-jawed" environment. I prove to myself every week that "common sense" is no longer common.

11. I feel your pain. I can't stand to shop on the weekends.
why can't people pull their cart off to the side when they are looking for something! Noooooo, they have to stop right in the middle of the aisle sono one else can get by them or else they and their three kids walk side by side down the aisle so no one can pass.

You know what else is really starting to piss me off? Those annoying self check out lines. It's always OH SO tempting to run throughone of those. You have a few things, you look at the self checkout, see no lines and think, "what the hell, I can do this." Four hours later you emerge from the store, totally frustrated because some damn electronic voice kept saying, "remove item from the bag and re-scan, remove item from the bag and re-scan..."

Okay, can I have one of those beers you bought?

I'm all lost in the supermarket,
I can no longer shop happily
I came in here for a special offer
Guaranteed personality

Thanks for the earworm, too! :7

12. They are dumb,but
With their families they need to raise with the 2~4 jobs that both parents combined have to take to raise them sufficiently thanks to 24 years of voodoo economics and higher workloads for no greater pay while CEOs make 600x more salary (and get awesome severance packages if they get fired :eyes: )...

They'll still go on Saturdays and vote for * so he can continue the sad trend.

21. Saturday is the BEST day to shop in my supermarket!!
Not many people there; you can usually walk right up to the register because there isn't a line. (On occasion you wait briefly in a short line.) I used to wonder how this could be, until I realized something:
The customers of my supermarket include a large number of observant Jews, which means the Sabbath is the BEST day to shop there.

22. Went to get a prescription filled.
The pharmacy has automatic doors. An elderly woman was standing in front of the 'in' door, patiently staring at it, but it didn't automatically open. I counted five seconds while we were walking across the parking lot, then when we got there I waved my hand above her head, nearer the sensor for the automatic door -- it opened, and she walked right on in. Mr. Nownow and I wondered how long she would have stood there waiting for the door to open.

The grocery store actually wasn't that bad, for all it was crowded -- though we did wonder why the young woman in front of us who only had four or five items didn't use the self-check lane and get the heck out of there instead of waiting on line and taking five extra minutes. Wasn't our problem, though. There was a guy who was shopping there at the same time we were who bore an astounding resemblance to Frank Zappa. His hair was pretty short, and he didn't have a soul patch, but he had the nose and the moustache, and was Zappaesque in both his swarthiness and height.

Harsh lighting, crowds, lines, too much merchandise and all of it screaming at you, "Buy me! Buy me!" Doesn't bring out the best in people.
