Damn that really hurt! A blatant plea for attention and sympathy.
I was riding my bike on a paved trail that runs through the woods and residential areas. The sun was shining and a bright blue sky served as the back drop for trees just beginning to show off their fall colors.

I was about 10 miles into my ride and enjoying it so much that I didn't want to turn around and go to work. As I approached a street crossing, I was reaching into my handlebar bag to see how much more riding time I could squeeze in.

Then, BAM! My bike comes to a dead stop and the force of the impact sends me flying over the handlebars, unclipping me from the pedals somewhere in the process. All I remember thinking was, Damn! This sucks.

My entire elbow is now a raw, bloody mess with no skin on a 3x4 square and a line of road rash extending farther down. A small patch of skin is gone from my knee, but the road rash extends about 6 inches down my calf.

I tore a whole in the hip of my shorts, perhaps I'll have a bruise there tomorrow and I have bruising and scrapes on my other leg from my pedal. The palms on my gloves, which were getting a little worn, are now shredded, but better them than my hands. I fell more to my side, so I didn't hit my head, but I did have my helmet on.

Apparently, there was supposed to be an I-beam there to keep cars from driving onto the path. It was removed, and all that was left was a small metal plate sticking up from the ground where it should have been attached.

I did end up with a tube puncture, but my tire held up. Surprisingly, my rim didn't get bent, but there are a few new scratches on my bike.

Two guys stopped to help me, but I was able to ride home. Once the initial shock wore off, I realized how much it hurt as the wind really irritated the skinless areas.

So, there's my tale of woe.

7. He's back in Ohio
His band plays nearly every Friday and Saturday night.

That's why I'm forced to rely on the kindness of strangers.

4. OUCH!!!!!!
You did a fair amount of damage to yourself, but it could have been worse had you hit your head.

Hope you feel better soon. I recommend lashings of alcoholic beverages....though not while at work.

Beautiful day, wasn't it? The brightness of the sun created a lot of glare, which may have contributed to your accident.

11. I took a couple of ibuprofens
But I do have something stronger at home if needed. :-)

It was gorgeous, but nothing but my own stupidity and carelessness contributed to my crash. I simply wasn't paying enough attention.

At least I had slowed since I was approaching an intersection. It would have hurt a lot worse at 20 mph than the 14 or so I was going.

14. Oo.... I'm sorry... You're really lucky.... Hope you feel better!
I did something similar in June... and ended up with a sprained knee and some ligament damage. (Surgery soon... After the election.)

Take care of the raw patches... those can get infected easily, and if your neck or back hurts in the morning, make sure you see a doctor ASAP.

16. Owie!
I'll give it a kiss. Then my dog will give it a big wet kiss.

I am so glad it wasn't worse.
