Finish all your peas, ok?
And don't knock them onto the floor, either.

Just said that to Little Moonbeam, who looks at me with indignation and says, "MOMMA! I wouldn't do THAT!" Then as I was leaving the room she mumbles "Hannah won't eat them, anyway."

What did YOU try to give to the dog or otherwise HATE to eat as a kid?

1. Nothing. I'd gobble up anything even remotely edible.

6. We ate that olive loaf stuff
though not as bad as tripe, I cannot imagine having an olive loaf sandwich now. And we ate SPAM when it was on sale. And other nasty meats in cans, unidentifiable. Our stepdad often bought the dented, no label cans. Ug.

3. I hated vegetables as a kid .
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 08:39 PM by CarolinaPeridot
I remember sitting at the table for hours because I would not eat any of my vegetables . I was not allowed to leave the table unless my plate was cleaned , therefore lots of temper tantrums from LittleCarolinaPeridot . But now vegetables are my favorites !

I also remember swallowing certain foods that I did not like " whole " because I did not like the taste of them . And I could not stand LIMA BEANS !

4. See that's funny
Mr. Moonbeam was raised the same way. His mom took the 3-5 servings of fruits and veggies recommendation VERY LITERALLY and seriously and so they did just that and he HATED it. He had to stay at the table until every last bit was eaten and nowdays, if I didn't prepare veggies, he would NEVER touch one, except for salads, the man adores salads. But he drowns them in full-fat Ranch, cheese, croutons, bacon bits, and hard-boiled eggs. Oh and HAM! LOL!

Sheesh. He has a serious prejudice against fruits and veggies now. Glad you don't.

Exactly the way you described them : full-fat Ranch, cheese, croutons, bacon bits, and hard-boiled eggs. Oh and HAM! LOL!

5. My bird, Grace, finished all her peas the other night.
She likes the little baby peas. It's so cute to see a tiny little green bird eating tiny little green peas. :-)

11. I haven't, but I should try it--she loves corn kernels.
And I know that birds love those tiny cobs. Where does one get those? BTW, her favorite food is broccoli! She goes nuts over it!

13. Liver and white sausage gravy with biscuits.
I cannot abide liver to this day (and knowing what the liver does for the body does NOT make that any easier)... but my father LOVED liver and even though the rest of the house hated it, he insisted we have it once a month "for our blood". (The females in the family are all mildly anemic.)

Mom also made sausage gravy and biscuits every Saturday morning, good stick-to-your-ribs food so we could get on with our chores... The texture bothered me a lot and the smell still makes me cringe. It smells like canned pet food to me. I loved her biscuits, but smothering them with that white gluey crap just seemed a travesty.

Veggies... can't and couldn't get enough of them. It's a good thing we lived on the eastern edge of the Imperial Valley (Yuma, AZ, lettuce capital of the northern hemisphere...)

Are you doing canned or frozen peas? I hated peas until I was exposed to the frozen, baby peas. Mom switched when I was 12 or so and it does make all the difference.

15. Yep they are frozen baby peas
but Mr. Moonbeam went shopping last time and his cheap ass bastard self bought the cheapest peas I have ever seen. I think they must cost 15 cents a bag, they are like the peas the GENERICS pass up, seriously. I found a BLUE one.

HOW on God's green arth can you NOT like country (white) gravy????? Good googly-woogly, make me up a mess of it. I'll mop it up with some biscuits so quick you won't have to smell it.

22. Because my mom can't cook.... *shrug* ?
Weird peas, by the way... (Note to self: don't let Mr. Pcat do the groceries...)

No, seriously, her white gravy has the consistency of wall paper paste.... it's slimy and gooey and utterly flavorless except for the sausage bits, and if the sausage wasn't very good to begin with... we may have been an officer family, but officers aren't that well paid, and when you factor in compulsive gambling and a scary shopping habit...

I'm sure other gravies taste better, but the association is there. I can't get past the idea that it's going to be gooey going down.

23. Ah THAT kind of gravy
Well m'dear, that's the kinda white gravy you salt the shit out of before eating. I've had it. Put about 1/4 cup of salt on your serving and it is much better.

He can't make any for hisself?

He ought to get him like a "peas dealer" on the side so he can go get a fix outside the house so you don't have to smell it.

21. Call me a freak, but I actually loved all my vegetables
maybe it's because mom has a degree in child psychology. She was messing with my head from an early age onward to make sure I ate all my peas.

24. I want to know what she did
For a while there, everytime my kid asked what I was making for dinner I would say, "It's called 'Yuck I Hate It'" and she'd get pissed off. I said that because no matter what I was making, she'd say "yuck I hate it" so I just started calling everything that.

The only plus to that was she quit asking.

Now she's getting old enough to make ME dinner and I am enjoying that.

25. My mom said I had to try everyone once
and if I really didn't like it, I didn't have to eat it. I don't know how well it'll work with other kids, I was really adventurous. Let's just say my favorite food has been sushi since age 7.
