5. Led Zeppelin live in Seattle 3/21/75
The longest "Dazed and Confused" of them all.

Apart from Pink Floyd, no one else comes close. For live Floyd newbies, I would recommend the Oakland 5/9/77 show. Simply brutal. Look for the "Mr. Pig" release on the Highland label.

Easter Everywhere. If there's the One True Acid Song, it's Slip Inside This House.

See, not everything from Texas is a wild-eyed turd!

I read that it was one of the great psychedelic records-bUT its almost too much for me-I'm not sure I wanna be that fucking high anymore! :)
Those weird, repititious suction noies in evey single song get on my nerves too.

I've been debating whether I should give it a 3rd listen! I suppose I'll have to now!

24. The Monkees - August 24, 1987 soundboard rehearsal tape!
Basically, they run through the show, working out little problem spots here and there. It's the Micky/Davy/Peter lineup. An interesting listen, especially for the liberal use of the word "fuck" throughout. My particular favorite is "I'M GONNA KILL THAT FUCKING BITCH" in the middle of "Randy Scouse Git" (I think).

27. Just got a bunch of late Monkees...
Including the show I went to in 1986, a reunion show with Nesmith from 1987, one of the reunion shows from 1997 in England, and a radio appearance with all 4 members.

Now, the real challenge is to find some "New Monkees" live recordings. :)

31. Screeching Weasel -- My Brain Hurts -- My Brain Hurts
MY BRAIN HURTS
Time gets wasted every day I watch the minutes tick away my brain is melting like a chocolate ice cream bar. Like characters on tv these people look like maggots to me and I wonder what the hell is wrong with me. Milk fed little beauty queen she's straight out of a magazine she sits beside me breathing different air than me. The perfect generation sees that i'm infected with disease and everything just crumbles and there's nothing left. If i wanna do something right I gotta do it myself or someone else will fuck it up it isn't all black and white and now it's time to stop and figure out reality no one knows what they're talking about if what they're talking about don't making any sense to me I gotta figure it out cause I don't want something to believe in.

39. As We Speak, by SOiLWORK
amazing song. sample lyric:

Don't despair, time will heal your torment,
Don't you dare, spend your days in hell,
So beware, faith with bring you treason...

It's strangely uplifting after going through a rough breakup. It's like they were singing it to me only, like a comforting friend. I'm rarely moved so by lyrics like that...

41. Hot new artist: Rachael Yamagata
Edited on Sun Oct-10-04 11:53 AM by nebula
Anyone heard of her?

I first saw her recently on the Conan O'brien show, Craig Kilborn shows and have been hooked ever since. She sings/writes blues, plays guitar and piano. She sounds like a cross between Fiona Apple/PJ Harvey and Nora Jones, receiving unanimous praise in Rolling Stone, People, GQ, Playboy, EW. She's my favorite new artist and she's amazing!

Some streams of her performances:
KCRW

live on MTV
Check her out!
