What drink to get drunk cleanly?
I had too much to drink the last two nights, and this one will be no exception. But: what is ONE drink I can have consistenty tonight so that I shouldn't feel too bad tomorrow?

Wine?
Pabst?
Rum and Coke?

What's your favorite for this purpose?

(Note: I hate scotch, whiskey, cognac, bourbon)

3. Amazingly... rum and hypnotique mixed with soda water.
1 beer will give me a hangover, but I can do 8 shots of this and be fine. (I've done so during the first two debates; I chose to have a date with Mr. Pcat last night instead.)

7. Just smoke weed.
Hangovers are caused from the metabolism of ethanol. Doesn't really matter what kind you drink. You either get hangovers or you don't.

Just get lots of sleep and drink plenty of fluids.

12. I believe vodka
offers the least amount of side effects. But not a screwdriver, because the orange juice can mess with your stomach. I haven't drank a whole helluva lot in many years, but that's what I recall. Also, don't mix your drinks. That's just asking for trouble.

But before you go to bed, drink a big bottle of water, at least 32 oz, and you'll be fine. Hangovers are dehydration. Just drink water with your booze. I've never had a hangover.

22. Yes, food and water are essential
Although if I'm driving at the end of a night, there isn't much chance of a hangover. :)

I always try to keep a bottle around during the night as well. It helps when you wake up dehydrated after sweating for a couple of hours.

... with one proviso.

Never go to sleep drunk. If you are going to tie one on, be prepared to stay awake until at least the majority of alcohol is out of your system.

If you do so, and drink a big gulp of water before you bed down, you will be fine.

My favorite clean drunk, sure to be controversial :), is tequila. Bt it has to be 100% agave tequila, anything else is virtually rotgut :)

Also a rare combination that you can mix, although I find that cognac by itself provides a cleaner, more wholesome experience. Different from the sharper vodka effects.

No cocktails, no wine, no brown liquor.

When I saw this topic, my first thought was, "Please let there be someone besides me that thinks this guy is drinking too much."

As the daughter and granddaughter of alcoholics, I can tell you that your drinking can get out of your control very fast. MODERATE consumption of alcohol is one drink (one regular mixed drink, one glass of wine or one beer) per day for a woman, on average, and never more than 3 in one day. For men it's two drinks on average per day, and never more than 4 in one day. If you're drinking to the point of intoxication often, you're drinking too much.

This is one of the better websites I've seen for information on substance abuse:

40. getting smashed occasionally
doesn't actually make one an alcoholic, this group of friends may have had a run of things to celebrate - if you get stonkered every night then yeah you'd have a point, but assuming these guys/girls are all alcoholics or in "pain" based on this is a bit of a stretch

BTW - drink vodka or tequila - not because the hangover will be better but in the words of Eddie Hitler, the vom's a lot clearer and easier to wash out of your sheets!

39. British Med. Journal: Bourbon twice as likely as vodka to cause hangover
http://www.irishhealth.com/?level=4&id=417

Which drink is most likely to cause a hangover?

The rule of thumb is that the paler the spirit, the less painful the subsequent hangover. This is due in no small part to tiny toxins called cogeners that are present in alcoholic drinks. The darker the drink, the more cogeners it contains.

A glass of Bourbon whiskey, for example, contains eight times as many cogeners as the equivalent amount of vodka. Tests published in the British Medical Journal discovered that Bourbon was twice as likely as vodka to cause a hangover. It is generally accepted that cheap red wine will cause the worst hangover, followed by brandy, dark rum, whisky, white wine, gin and vodka.

However, drinking too much beer is likely to cause a hangover by dehydrating the body through urination, while drinking alcopops or sweet liqueurs can lead to a hangover by causing nausea.

Mixing your drinks is the most surefire way to procure a hangover.

46. That's not possible for me.
I have the tolerance of a turtle.
No matter what I drink, if it's more than 3-4 drinks in a couple hours, I :puke:. (Yes, I have a weak stomach and can get airsick easily, can't do rollercoaters, really nauseas when pregnant, etc.) Generally, I have enough brains to not drink like this so I'll drink one or two and leave it at that. Once a decade or so, it seems I forget and let it sneak up on me and Mr. Ralph Spew decides to pay a visit. Not a pretty site.
