Kind of odd solicitation at the front door this evening
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 10:53 PM by mmmarke
I tell ya, hanging out at DU can make one ascribe the most sinister motives to the most innocent door-to-door salesperson.

Young man knocks as we're getting dinner together. Says he's "campaigning" for Bush and just visiting the neighborhood ("I've talked to many of your neighbors") to get out the vote for Bush. Not wanting to be rude, I politely point out the Kerry/Edwards sign in the front yard and say "Well, as you can see, we're Kerry supporters." So duh, kid, you're wasting your time, right? But no--

He then says his Bush pitch was a ploy to break the ice, what he's really doing is selling some lame-ass coupon shit for a local restaurant. ("Many of your neighbors have bought one. I happen to have one left.") I listened to his spiel--politely--and said no thanks. He took it well, but then went out to a car parked across the street, where another guy was standing, waiting for him. I asked my next door neighbor if she'd gotten a similar visit, and she said no.

I swear to God, I was scared after the guy left, thinking: Uh-oh, I've been identified as a bad German. Gonna be rousted out of bed in the middle of the night and carted off.

I really need to take a break from DU. :D

but don't freak out.

Someone kicked our front door HARD in the middle of the night the other night (we have very large K/E signs in the windows), and I was :scared:

7. I peeked out the little hole in the door thingy
but, since Bush came to office, my digs and financial situation has taken a real dive. Anyway, the eyepiece was all scratched and foggy, due to me living in a dump now.

I waited about 10 seconds, and then peeked out. I did not see a brick or rock or anything. I was sitting about three feet away from our old, wooden door (at 1 am) and someone hit/kicked it HARD. It really shook and the chain on it jumped.

I did not want to face any angry freeper (we have lots where I live) with a gun or something, but I am not taking my window signs down.

crew of good old boys.

There is one fox (we have a dinky police force) who has a K/E sticker on his personal car. I may tell him the next time I see him.

The reason I denigrate them wthat ay, there was an attepted murder in a building I used to work at, and when we saw who we though was the "perp" come back in, we called the cops, and the detective and cops acted like we were really bugging them with our picayune concerns.

So a kicked door won't juice them too much, if an attempted murder does not.

2. those guys work in teams
don't worry about it. They probably bought a list of names/addresses of people who have bought similar stuff.

3. Considering you already had a K/E yard sign
I don't see that they learned anything new. Myself though, I would be calling that restaurant, and giving them an earfull about what happened, if he really was doing it for them.
