Zomby you were right! Project object was great! (Dubya comments) |

And wow, did they cut W to the bone! Frank Zappa wasn't a shrinking violet when it came to political commentary, and Project Object (a FZ cover band inculuding 2 original members) isn't either. They hammered Bush, talking for what must have been 10 or 15 minutes about how bad Bush is for the country and how we must all vote and get others to vote against him. They even taylored several songs in protest of Bush. Cosmik Debris turned into "Look here Dubya, who you jivin' with that cosmik Debris"! What a show. I'll remember this always. Thanks for the advice, Project Object was well worth the $17 bucks.

Too bad they didn't have MORE members, but it still sounded true to Zappa!
Kind of hard to believe that Zappa missed all but the first 11 months of the Clinton era and everything since - all that GOP ugliness, never put to his music.
When I saw the band play with the Seattle Symphony (this was in '96), Ike Willis, Chad Wackerman, the Fowler Brothers, and Tommy Mars were all part of the lineup... When they did "Inca Roads", Ike changed "It's Ruth! It's Ruth!" to "It's Newt! It's Newt!", and "Idiot Bastard Son", after the line, "His father's a nazi in Congress today", Ike added "NEWT!". Lots of anti-Newt humor. Steve Vai guested too.
Glad you enjoyed it. I would never forgive myself if I steered a DUer wrong about a concert. :-)

2. That wasn't Project Object... |
|
That was "Band From Utopia" (sort of).
However, there IS a recording of a recent Project Object show with Mike Keneally on the entire second set and encore, bringing the alumni number up to three. :)

I wasn't assigning a name - and my concert program (autographed by Tommy Mars) says Band From Utopia. I did recommend Project/Object to scuba precisely because of its Zappa connection, including Band From Utopia.
If you saw his original thread, it would make more sense. :-)

I might have to listen to FZ or P/O next after this Mike Nesmith show is done.
