Poll question: Is it okay if I go buy 'Farenheit 911' at Wal-Mart? |
|
Why or why not? (especially if 'why', I am acquainted with some of the 'why not''s.)

2. I never want to give them my business, but in THIS case |
|
upping the sales numbers for F 911 at Walmart will likely have them stock more, and more dimwits who shop there will be likely to buy it. And if they buy it, they'll watch it, and if they watch it, they'll finally be exposed to some of the truth.

5. $17.87 at my location... |
|
:-(
(of course, I could buy it online for $15.88... but I want to go in and parade the title. Much as I did on 24 August 1995. Windows 95 came out so I bought "OS/2 Warp 3" and paraded it around. :D

7. I was in Sam's Club yesterday |
|
and they are selling it for 18 bucks.
They are also selling a companion book for 12.
I thumbed thru one -- mostly letters from soldiers voicing their outrage.

If it sells well at Wall Mart , Wall Mart starts to understand that freedom of speech is good for bizz. This is good question for Michael Moore.

13. Wal-Mart acts as it's own distributor for A/V materials, they don't go |
|
through Baker and Taylor, BWI, etc. They couldn't help but notice the sales even if they tried. The only thing is, sales info wouldn't be available to the press/public as it si with major A/V distributors.
Still, this would send a HUGE message to them, especially if that's all we buy there.
VERY IMPORTANT; Don't buy ANYTHING else there, though, otherwise the message would be diluted. Not even gum.

If sales figures look good enough, who cares how it gets publicity.

By buying it from the most notoriously predatory of bottom-dollar chain stores, you'd be helping in a small way to lend economic legitimacy to criticism of the Misadministration that enables Wal-Mart's policies, and thereby broaden our public discourse.
Besides, don't you want to be able to say "I bought Fahrenheit 9/11 at Wal-Mart"? Irony DEMANDS that you buy it there, and it would be totally punk rock! You do want to be punk rock, don't you?

12. Wal-Mart acts as their own distributor for A/V and books and tracks by |
|
UPC code, so a huge invasion of people coming to buy F 9/11 would send quite a message to them.
Really, I think if a bunch of us do it, it's a great idea!
Do it--I think I will too!

15. I did so with the Bill and Hillary books |
|
for just those reasons, in conservative northern Nevada. I've never bought a video or DVD there, but I hear that they edit them - I wonder what F911 would look like with all the anti-Bush/anti-Iraq war parts edited out.

20. I'm in the biz; here's a way to be sure: |
|
UPC code for the only version available through Baker and Taylor and BWI (thus you can be 100% certain it is NOT edited):
043396086708 (you may see numbers either before or after, but this code should be in the body somewhere)
If you see another number where the UPC code is, the DVD was "Wallied," although I'm not aware of a "Wallied" version. This can be as mild as altering the cover art or as much as leaving multiple scenes out. But if you see the code above near the bar code, it's safe.
If anyone finds any with a different UPC code, I'd appreciate if you'd let me know--and I'll let others know, and so on...
Now that Wal-Mart does their own distribution, and K-mart is kind of out of the race, the A/V distributors make it very clear that a particular item has been edited for sale. They aren't real happy with having to offer expurgated versions themselves (it's a logistical pain in the tookus for them!).

Since they buy A/V books directly from publishers, they wouldn't help but notice this.

17. Radio edit version, like the CD's they sell!......... |
|
Wife and I joked last week it would be the "radio edit version" just like the CD's they sell.
I said it would be blank, she thought it would be 90 min of idiots in blue vest chanting wal-mart wal-mart wal-mart wal-mart.
I will buy it at the one local owned store they did not put out of biz.

21. I'm in the biz, have access to numerous distribution dbs, and so far am |
|
unaware of a "Wallied" version.
UPC code on the only edition I'm aware of is: 043396086708
I doubt Moore would consent to it and he still has some ownership, so he would hve to consent.
Lots of recording artists don't have that luxury.

|
no matter what the cause.
They'll just be laughing at you on your way to the checkout line.
In the end, you're still contributing another dollar to their evil empire. They don't give a damn what you're getting from them.
They'll just use the cash to build their privatized school system. :puke:
