My idea is that we do a Hitchhiker's Guide on them:

We tell them that scientists have agreed that the World is going to end soon. Make up any catastrophe you want. Then, build one huge, space ark.

Tell them, because they are brave and very important, they get to go first and the rest of the World will follow in various arks. We can say we will meet up with them on some other planet out in deep space.
