2. both repbulicans.......
or so i was told, matt or trey (the 1 with the glasses) said in an interview " i hate conservatives but i fu**ing hate liberals". The guy (supposedly) deslikes both but he is registered as a republican, and i heard that there is something called "south park republicans" on the show or somewhere.

3. Aren't they or maybe one of them from
Littleton, Colorado? That would explain the Republican thing.

5. they're libertarians
Small "l". I doubt they're voting for Bush. If they're voting at all they'd probably vote for Nader.

You read DU long enough you hear stories of mythical interviews where Matt and/or Trey do everything short of sacrificing a puppy for republicans, but of course no one ever has SEEN these interviews. Its always "I heard they hate liberals" or "I heard they said they were republicans".

Watching South Park on even the most smallest regularity lets you know that these guys skewer every and anyone they see fit. Other than gun nuts, fundies, and country singers who profit from tragedy, one of their targets are liberals with no sense of humor. You know they exist, you see them on DU and other places. The ones who think everything is offensive and can't understand why anyone ever has fun because there's so much evil in the world.

24. Funny you should mention interviews
Here's one with Parker and Stone from October 4th that proves they are not Republicans. Perhaps the people who bash them here will take the time to read it and finally give it a rest.

From the interview:

I don’t know if you’ve heard about this, but there have been essays written about the concept of the “South Park Republican.”

TREY: Yeah, we have seen that. What we’re sick of — and it’s getting even worse — is: You either like Michael Moore or you wanna f***in’ go overseas and shoot Iraqis. There can’t be a middle ground. Basically,if you think Michael Moore’s full of s***, then you are a super-Christian right-wing whatever. And we’re both just pretty middle-ground guys. We find just as many things to rip on on the left as we do on the right. People on the far left and the far right are the same exact person to us.

Who do you think wants you to shut up the most: the right or the left? Putting it another way: Would Janeane Garofalo or Sean Hannity tell you to shut your yap faster?

TREY: Janeane Garofalo wouldn’t do that because she’d know it would be hypocritical. The left never really tells you to shut up. The right just likes to think the left is stupid and the left just likes to think the right is evil.

10. Is Sean Penn a self-righteous idiot?
Edited on Sun Oct-10-04 09:12 PM by Finnfan
Is George Clooney? Who decides that? And what makes the two of them any more self-righteous or idiotic then Mr. Parker and Mr. Stone? Do we let THEM preach their political beliefs, and let them attack those who share ours, just becuase they can be funny?

I was invited to go see this film next weekend, but I will not be giving a dime to these two. And I have LOVED South Park.

12. That's what I don't understand
How can someone attack others for being self-righteous in such a self-righteous way? Their new movie seems to attack only liberal actors for their stance. How about Schwarzenegger? Alice Cooper? Etc.

13. Or Tom Selleck. Bo Derek. Dennis Miller. Or about 50 country singers.
They are being very selective about which self-righteous side they are lampooning. All the while being hypocrites themselves, and self-righteously preaching THEIR politcial beliefs.

22. I believe they are lampooning the right
with the overall theme of the movie. It isn't like they can do a movie about invading countries and say it is making fun of liberals now can they? Both sides get it pretty equally from these two. You could make an arguement for the right getting it worse since Cartman is a main character and Kyle's mom is a secondary character.

I thought it was going to be amusing...and assumed it was slamming the war, etc. I guess I was way off!!!

Thanks DU -- always educating me.

8. Stone and Parker fill their work with their own self-righteous bullshit.

Too often, Stone and Parker fill their work with their own self-righteous bullshit.

Their comedic success with talking pieces of shit shouldn't lead to constant (and often fucking moronic) political lectures from those two assholes.

(Like the Knights of Standards and Practices)
They can do good comedy.
They ought to do it more often.

19. Hilarious!! I could give less than 2 shits if they're Republican or not...
If I took that critique to my favorite singers or actors/actresses, I'd be no better than those Repukes who hate the Dixie Chicks for speaking up. Besides, if they make fun of Democrats, what's wrong with laughing at yourself?

20. I saw part of a South Park episode once
I could barely understand what the maojity of the characters were saying.

I voted "can't believe they've made it as far as they have."

21. libertarians
http://www.theadvocates.org/celebrities/trey-parker.html

The political ideology of 8 year olds.

Perhaps that's why they prefer to express their views through characters that are 4th grade foul mouth boys in a red neck town.

Kyle's mom will look like a balanced person. So will Kim Jong Il for that matter.
