Why are so many nerds libertarian?
It's a pattern I've noticed both online and among my engineer friends. Does the simplicity of the libertarian model appeal to mathematical minds? Is it reflective of a lack of empathy brought on by social isolation or feeling of intellectual superiority? Is it the money you make at an early age in the software engineering business?

The little fuckers should've lived in pre-union, pre-big government days. I loathe libertarians.

2. Blame it on Ayn Rand
I tried to read her stuff and found it trivial, dull, and populated with cardboard characters. Found Robert Pirsig far more interesting.

3. Every true libertarian I know
is seriously a bit mentally whacked. Seriously. Unbalanced. Not nearly enough to be committed, you know, just....mentally unhealthy and I am NOT just saying that to slur them. Time and time again they fit the pattern.

I don't know why.

4. A poem
Here's a ditty I wrote awhile back when a libertarian got on my nerves,

Libertarian Swagger
by Underground Panther in the Sky

Libertarian, arrogant ,contrarian.
Full of himself.
Full of conflict.
Swaggers upon the scene
Uncooperative,heavy handed piss-poor additude.

A Penny pinching one-man band
He says he goes where freedom goes-
until he has to wipe his nose
,than it's everyone else's fault he got hurt.

Whiney little bully boy in a smart business suit
Patriot fanatic in a porn booth
jerking himself off in front of a mirror.
Defensive,clueless and,crass
A horses ass...of a different color.

He wouldn't know how to survive on his own two feet,
yet he is such a great pretender,
Talks alot of fluff, when things get rough
Talks to please his own ego
and he never gets enough

Libertarian fool
uncivil tool
Another leftover loser
that never left middle school

Angry white males ,shoulders full of chips
walking down the slaughter chute with little pithy quips

No they won't share
No one can make them care,
As long as they got thiers
They're happy ,
believing thier own bullshit.
Until it hits them in the face.

7. Yes
Interesting that you mention "contrarian." I've wondered that myself talking politics with these guys, whether it's all show. To think that most of these people are in a business that benefits to such an extent from government largesse and have educations funded by parents or taxpayers is what gets me.

It's a profoundly dishonest ideology, and so are its adherents.

9. I find it a profoundly immature idealogy.
I guess these folks just never grew up.

5. Not having teenage sex gives them plenty of time to read Rand's...
turgid inanities. Then the damage is done.

6. Thank you for the "so many"
I've been a nerd for decades, and I'm certainly not libertarian.

8. Many, not all, thankfully
Besides, how do you think I get overexposed to this stuff on a daily basis?
;)
