4. I'll be renting Superman in honor
This kills me. I was under the assumption that his condition was improving. My heart goes out to his family.

6. I bet there will be many replays of it all over the telly this week.
I'll watch it, too, and have my son watch it with me.

8. I was under the assumption of that too ...
Edited on Mon Oct-11-04 12:43 AM by CarolinaPeridot
Just a couple of weeks ago I saw some footage of him on television and he was able to breathe on his own without the aid of a machine ... This is truly sad . I also remember the tribute ceremony that him and his wife officiated for New Jersey victims of September 11 . He did so much work in his final years on Earth , more than some do in a lifetime .

12. Would you PLEASE settle down and look at LBN...
The AP is reporting it.
CNN is reporting it.
NBC is reporting it.

Please take time away from spamming the Reeve threads to research before you hurl these accusations that we are relying only on Drudge's word.

Sheesh!

17. Everybody at first was running with a Drudge story.
Sorry, I don't run with Matt's stories. I was repeatedly checking with my CNN, Yahoo, AP, and Google News bookmarks and the story was not coming up until just a few minutes ago. I don't spead a story until I have a reliable source, thank you. Talk about spamming. The story jumped up on about 8 different threads at once, with NO LINKS for some time. I didn't want us caught in a "Rather" loonie left position again.

24. Consider me scolded and sent to bed without my milk and cookie
I guess my computer links to different MAJOR sites. The stories were NOT up when everyone started running with the Drudge story and didn't start appearing until around 1:30 EST.

One moderator even cut off one thread becuase there were no links.
Are you a moderator? I am new here at DU. Don't have a scorecard for the players. Maybe a moderator should have posted it first.

22. Here's a new link that'll help (I mean brand new)
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/fronts/RAW?SITE=SCCOL&SECTION=HOME

There's now a Raw News link on the AP wire site; I swear it wasn't there yesterday. Just keep hitting refresh and the story shows up well ahead of when it appears on the front page. Especially useful are the AP News Alerts, such as the one confirming Reeve's death at 1:19 am.

If the link doesn't work, just go to the Wire and look at the column to the left headed Latest News; the last item is Raw News.

13. This is weird
And so sad. I feel so heartbroken by this. The strange part is, we had my whole family over for Thanksgiving tonight (it is Thanksgiving in Canada) and we were discussing what we were thankful for, and we talked about how we were all glad to have the use of our limbs and minds. Christopher Reeve came up, and we talked about what an optimist and what a hero he has been to so many people, and how we hoped he would walk again one day. It sends shivers down my spine to know now that he was already dead as we were making those wishes ...

`Superman' Star Christopher Reeve Dies

BEDFORD, N.Y. (AP) -- Christopher Reeve, the star of the "Superman" movies whose near-fatal riding accident nine years ago turned him into a worldwide advocate for spinal cord research, died Sunday of heart failure, his publicist said. He was 52.

Reeve fell into a coma Saturday after going into cardiac arrest while at his New York home, his publicist, Wesley Combs told The Associated Press by phone from Washington, D.C., on Sunday night.

Reeve was being treated at Northern Westchester Hospital for a pressure wound, a common complication for people living with paralysis. In the past week, the wound had become severely infected, resulting in a serious systemic infection.

"On behalf of my entire family, I want to thank Northern Westchester Hospital for the excellent care they provided to my husband," Dana Reeve, Christopher's wife, said in a statement. "I also want to thank his personal staff of nurses and aides, as well as the millions of fans from around the world who have supported and loved my husband over the years."
