I learned very young that the "house cats" and the "barn cats" were two different species, so to speak. There were always a dozen or so feral cats living in the barn, keeping mice/rats out of the feed bins, and they weren't used to human beings, would scratch and bite like wildcats. We could only handle the house cats.
