Mother Grounds 12 Year Old - 12 Year Old Shoots Mom - Dead
<snip>

DALLAS -- A 12-year-old girl upset about being grounded by her mother fatally shot the woman in the face while she slept, police said.

Elvira Marion Walton, 48, was discovered in her bed early Sunday by her son. The 10-year-old boy called police around 1 a.m.

"Apparently the motive is because the daughter was upset that the mother disciplined her," police Sgt. Gary Kirkpatrick said in Monday editions of The Dallas Morning News.

The girl has been charged with murder. Police found a gun in the house, but investigators did not immediately say whether it was the weapon used in the shooting or who owned it.

An older daughter, Thanica Derrick, said her mother had been having trouble with the girl. Walton had six children and lived in a converted garage used as the family home.

2. Jesus.
I have a 12 year old girl that gets that pouty adolescent angst at times, but this kid had some serious problems. Besides, what's a house with children doing with an unlocked weapon lying around? :grr:

3. House should be in quotes
"house" - six people living in a garage can make a lot of people crazy, I'm sure.

Sad for all involved.

4. That's true.
What's going on in this country where it's acceptable for children to grow up in a garage? It's pretty much a third world country in far too many places in the US apparently. No child should have to live like that. :(

8. It could have been a converted mechanic's garage....
With separate rooms and such? And it's not acceptable...but you have to do what you have to do to get by and have a roof over your head.

5. Now you know why having a gun around the house is not such
a good idea.

6. Not for teens...
not for women going through menopause, and certainly not for overly testostrony men. But then the NRA will just say, 'Hormones kill, not guns.'

APES WITH GUNS KILL PEOPLE!!!! And I have two guns in my house... The Brilliant part of it is that we HAVE NO AMMO for either gun.

10. Another victory for the NRA
Heston stresses the respondsible use of guns by parents and children. This incident was clearly irrespondsible.
