Christopher Reeve was an American hero. |

He embodied the principle of not giving up no matter how daunting the challenge and with dignity and humor.
Initially after his accident, he considered suicide and discounted it quickly as his family needed him. Later, he expanded his role as a leader in rehabilitation and scientific research. He gave voice to silent masses.
And honorable mention goes to actor and friend, Robin Williams, a classmate from Juilliard, who showed us what loyalty, devotion, and love of another person really means. Williams quietly picked up the medical and rehabilitation bills for Reeve.
Superman was a wimp compared to real life Christopher Reeve.

I have seen people with Far Less serious injuries just give up. Chris Reeve never did that, He was on TV Like Friday saying he knew one day he would walk again... According to Yahoo News he had a heart attack during treatment of a pressure ulcer...I don't know how treating a pressure wound can cause a heart attack, unless he was under General Anesthesa. I suppose he could have just had the MI while getting the area worked on, But wow. Ya know, I also heard something about his Dad, George Reeve... Something bad happened to him either while he was filming a Superman Movie or shortly thereafter... Oh well, I suppose I should Google it. Anyway, I am sorry that the world has suffered this loss... My hat does go off for Robin Williams...He played Patch Adams, not only in a Movie, but in real life to a degree.

14. George Reeves and Christopher Reeve. No relation. |
|
They hammered all this out back when the confusion first started in 1978 with the release of Superman: The Movie.
Chris Reeve's father is Franklin Reeve, a New York novelist.

5. While I agree with the sentiment... |

He was an American Icon...not so much a hero. He never risked his own life to save another selflessly. So, while he was a great man, a great father, husband, and advocate. I don't really think he was a hero. Duckie

Without her and her strength, he would have quit long ago.

I will miss him. His medical spearheading legacy will become legendary. His bill in Congress is now at the mercy of us all.
I met him back in 1977 at Niagara Falls. He was having dinner with the self absorbed ditzy co star who played Lois. She later went on to explore the depths of bi- polar disorder. He was phenomenally handsome, open and friendly.
Chris' best friend was Robin Williams. At age 20 they made a pact that they would look out for one another financially should either of them have a lapse in show business. Robin honored that pledge after Chris' accident.
It is indeed tragic that right wing politics would be the greatest impediment to find a cure for the man who played Superman.

13. I didn't know that about Robin Williams. Chris' death is very sad...... |
|
...he devoted his life to a cause after the accident, and found meaning, when so few of us do. A true hero--he will be missed!
