My favorite Christopher Reeve appearance
was as a prince "with more courage than brains" in Faerie Tale Theatre's version of "Sleeping Beauty."

Reeve is hilarious and touching at the same time. A friend bought me the LD many years ago; I invite you to buy the DVD (only $6.98!): http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releaseinfo.cfm?ReleaseID=3911. No, I don't work for anyone involved in the release. I just enjoy this the most of Reeve's work and wanted to bring it to the attention of fellow DUers. (The rest of Faerie Tale Theatre is also very good, by the way. If you want specific recommendations, PM me.)

Another good outing for Reeve was his appearance on The Muppet Show. During his soliloquy from Hamlet:

Reeve (as Hamlet): On what grounds do you interrupt my soliloquy?
Muppet janitor (George?): Well, it's time for my coffee break--
Reeve: Coffee grounds?!

One of the things I loved about the Muppet appearance is that Reeve is clearly having a lot of fun doing it. Somehow I enjoy an episode more when I know the performers are enjoying it with me.

Just thought I'd honor the memory of a great man by sharing some of my favorite parts of his work! Enjoy!

1. He did a voice over for a children's story called "The Lion and the Lamb"
on video tape. It was my daughter's favorite video as a child, and one of my favorites too. :hi:

Great idea BTW.

2. thanks for bringing this less known perfromance to our attention.
Somehow it is comforting that we can now return to the image of Reeve as the healthy, vigorous, athletic man he once was... Wherever he is now, I have to think he has been restored to that image....

3. I hope so . . .
He believed so passionately that he would walk again that he made me (ever the pessimist) believe it. That's what broke my heart most when I heard about his death. I wanted his faith to be vindicated; I wanted to see the Oscars ceremony in which he walked on stage to make the presentation.

I know he would've done it, if this illness had not intervened.

4. Anyone remember his made-for-HBO film, IN THE GLOAMING?
Edited on Mon Oct-11-04 09:12 PM by NightTrain
Reeve directed the film, which starred Robert Sean Leonard as a dying AIDS victim who reunites with his estranged family. If memory serves, HBO ran it in early 1997.

6. Reeve's Muppet Show appearance
Oh man, I remember when Reeve was on The Muppet Show, not only was their the "Hamlet" satire, Miss Piggy seeing Reeve in a t-shirt got all hot and bothered, it just was gut-busting funny.

7. Another classic line
"Superrat, you're in charge!"

Unfortunately, as far as I can discover, the Reeve episode never made it to DVD.
