An encouraging sign coming from Texas
Got an e-mail from my brother today. He's an ex-marine with 20 years of service, Gulf War I veteran, and retired just before the war. Last election we were at each other's throats over Dem/Rep politics. He hated Gore because of his association to Clinton. Later we got into a fight and stopped talking to each other for over a year because of the Iraq invasion. He was absolutely certain invading Iraq was the right choice.

This is what he had to say in his e-mail (edited to remove personal info):

"I do not know what side of the fence I am on, I guess I can say I give the Reps the benefit of the doubt and listen to the Dems to see if the choice is more appealing, I have not seen anything on the independent side to even take them into consideration.

I am not particularly trilled with either one of the choices right now, so I am staying out of it letting things lay as they may, besides, I live in XXXX, work in San Antonio, missed the absentee ballot deadline, can't find my voters registration card or even know if is up to date (I think liberal inclinations might of have something to do with that but have no proof) :-)
I was not willing to change my registration to San Antonio so the deadline came and went and I didn't do it.

some loyalty huh?"

So if my true Texan ex-marine brother is so disappointed in Bush that he doesn't much care whether he votes or not, this is a major political shift of tectonic proportions. I don't think the military vote is in the bag for Bush. I don't think the Tex-Mex vote is in the bag, and I don't even think the Texas vote is as rock solid as we are led to believe.

1. I agree...
I live south of Dallas and have seen many more Kerry bumperstickers and yard signs than Bush ones. Also, my son in Marine Reserves and says not too many of them support Bush. Lots of Texans for Kerry because of environment and Delay's redistricting... sick of all the crap.

2. More signs
I was astounded to see a large Kerry/Edwards billboard go up along the highway outside of Port Aransas, TX, where I live. This is an area that went 70% for * in 2000. I have no idea how long it will last before it is defaced/removed, but it have me a lot of hope...

3. Yes. There is hope!
I live southeast of Houston, and yard signs and stickers are at least 4-1 Kerry-*. I also see many more signs for Morrison than DeLay.
