Help! I need website-builder suggestions!
Requirements-

1- Must be free or shareware
2- Not an AOL/Yahoo/geocities sitebuilder
3- Not MS Frontpage
4- Kinda easy to get the hang of. I'm not computer illiterate, but website-building isn't my forte.

Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1. What do you want this website to do?
When you say "website", you are covering one hell of a lot of ground.

Clarify this, and I might just be able to help you with a solution.

2. Well, there are several options, but...

You might look at http://phpnuke.org/

1- It's free
2- Not AOL/Yahoo/Geocities sitebuilder
3- Not Frontpage
4- Pretty easy to use (kind of a pain in the ass to set up, though)

Nuke works on the "theme" concept. All your content is handled through the administration panel and you can change "themes" at will, or create your own. Everything is open-source and totally customizable, but you can get up and running quickly. If you need a hand, just PM me and I'll help you get started.

3. Agreed; Nuke is a beautiful thing...

Easy to implement, super-powerful, and the price is right:

4. Hey dave

I had a fairly hard time getting everything configured properly. Of course, I was starting from scratch. Didn't want to use IIS, or SQLServer, so I installed Apache and MySQL instead. So, I was learning several things at once. I thing the tools are incredible, but they don't often make it easy for us Windows people. ;) I wouldn't either, though. HAHAHA

ON EDIT: I should mention, I've been using IIS, SQLServer, ASP, .NET, ColdFusion, etc... for many years now which probabaly actually made it harder for me to make the switch. Sometimes experience isn't everything. However, once I was up and running, I was at an advantage as far as customizing things the way I wanted them.

This installs Apache, PHP and MySql on your Windows box. Super-easy.

8. Thank you very much for all of the responses
I will definitely give them a try. It's going to be a personal site, but it has to be professional-looking, since it's for a graphics class I'm taking. And I already own a domain that I am not doing much with, so I am looking to build upon it for my own fun once it's finished. My main focus of it is voter-awareness. Side portions will be liberal links I enjoy reading, potentially a blog section, and a ton of humorous political pictures/cartoons I've collected over the years.

Thanks again DUers! :D
