Can anyone explain this to me? |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-12-04 12:06 AM by Moonbeam_Starlight
I've ALWAYS wanted to ask about this, but never in person, so here goes.
When I was about 10, the phone rang. My parents weren't at home. I answered it and it sounded EXACTLY like a friend of my dad's, this nice doctor whom my family just loved. He and my dad went to school together. So I'm thinking it's him and I'm just answering his questions about how I'm doing etc and he suddenly asks me to stick my hand in my pants.
Now I'm totally freaked out, wondering why in the WORLD my dad's friend would say something like that? As he goes on talking, it suddenly dawns on me.....this ISN'T my dad's friend!
OMG!!! So I SLAM the phone down, but he calls again. No caller ID back then and I was thinking it might be my parents, but it is him, so I slam it down as soon as I hear his voice. He eventually stops calling.
Ok here's the question: WHAT kind of person does that? WHAT in the WORLD could he possibly get out of that? I realized as an adult he was obviously a pedophile or some other kind of pervert (but he had to know I was a child from my voice, so I am guessing pedophile) and thankfully that is as close as I ever got to anything like that (thanking my lucky stars), but DAMN! What is WRONG with people like that, seriously? I remember being so scared and pissed off at the same time, I was half afraid he knew our address (our number was in the phone book).
I know this is a weird topic, I just never had the courage to ask anyone about it. It's always freaked me out. If he hadn't sounded like my dad's friend, I wouldn't have even stayed on the phone with him!
On edit: I thought about this, and I really hope this doesn't bring up anything too painful for anyone...wondering if I shouldn't put a warning in my header????

1. there are perverts EVERYWHERE |
|
I'd venture to guess most of us gals in the DU have had the heavy breather call, although I'm sure it's not as prevalent now with the newer phone technology.

3. Now there's a sexist remark! |
|
j/k...
I'm a guy, and actually I did have a woman who made obscene phone calls to me for about three weeks. Not ashamed to say I enjoyed it, although I can understand why a woman would be afraid.

it was good old-fashioned, healthy eroticism (I wasn't ten years old, either).

5. Hell, I'm a guy and I've gotten heavy breather calls |
|
Back in college for about three months straight this one female would call me up accusing me of not showing up for our date last night, wanting to know what I was doing, even if I was wearing clean underwear(!?). It was no one I knew. Sounded like a slightly older woman (which would have been late 30s, early 40s to my 21 years at the time). The calls just started one day, came about every three or four days and ended just as suddenly as they began. Never found out who it was.
At first I thought it was amusing and played games with her. Then when it continued for more than a couple weeks I got creeped out and told her in no uncertain terms to stop calling. After that it was just a nuisance. I reported it to the phone company, hit whatever the key combination is on the phone to get the call logged and just hung up whenever she called after that.
There are some incredibly lonely and, shall we say, reality challenged people out there.

Also sick minded , twisted , pathetic individuals . The fact that he called you more than once makes me mad - I hope karma came back to him in some kind of way .

sitting over at a friend's house and the phone rings. The lady of the house answers it and then starts making unkind remarks. Then she starts laughing and says a heavy-breather guy just hung up on her. So we all go back to what we are doing and here he calls again! In tears. She hurt his feelings. Best laugh I had that year.

That is more satisfying than to scam the scammer, and this is true for phone calls as well.
I've spent days thinking up witty jokes to pull in case any telemarketer were to call up some day... but I don't know what I'd do if I ever got an obscene call. It would just freak me out I guess.

6. What's really scary about those type of people is |
|
that they can appear to be absolutely normal. They can hide that side of themselves pretty well. I really don't know what makes them tick. Perhaps it's some sort of childhood trauma.
