I've come to find I've married a sheep
As someone posted earlier, the stress of this election is getting out of hand. Finally my husband goes "I don't care. I don't care. I'll vote for whoever. I love Matt and Trey. I love their humor. There's a time to laugh! We need to laugh! I don't care who wins." What the hell? Before we got married he was very pro politics, anti-Bush. Why did he decide to change? I feel cheated. I feel like "He just doesn't get it". Is it just the stress?

1. Perhaps someone slipped him some kool-aid
or apathy-aid (reality TV, sports, WWF, on-line porn, Scott Petterson.....

2. Re-read or read "The Lysistrata" (Aristophanes)
He had some wonderful suggestions on how women could wield considerable political power.

5. You're right, a dome-slap is quicker. Then read ALL the Greek tragedies
and comedies plus the entire philosophical cannon; then learn classical Greek. Tell him when you're done, he may get to stop sleeping on the couch.

8. Couch may seem pretty comfy
but one has all one's life to learn. Shall we start with Antigone or The Trojan Women?

13. How do you get a husband to sleep on the couch?
I've told him a few times to go, and he won't, he digs into the mattress and refuses to leave.

7. It's possible that he's just not impressed with Kerry
My brother in law has the same feelings. I asked him about the election and he said they both suck. I don't really know what to say to someone like that besides asking them if they understand just how important this election is. List some big reasons why Bush should be ousted. Tell your husband about the PNAC and the Supreme Court.

15. I'm in the same boat with my best friend
I tried telling him about PNAC and he LIKED IT! I think he might vote for Kerry anyhow, I'll never know.

11. Been noticing a lot of that lately
both the cop-out tactic of "they all lie/cheat/misuse power" and the "I'm sick of it, I don't care who wins"

spent sat night arguing with a friend who thinks she's a Repub - known her almost 20 years and never got that read on her - then got an e-mail Monday -- "ok, I'll probably vote for Kerry, not because I'm so anti-Bush or like Kerry, but all my friends seem to feel so strongly about it." Fat chance sister, I know I haven't got your vote yet....

If he needs to laugh, tell him to get off SP (haven't watched lately, but sometimes they feed the problems of apathy and RW derision of valid issues - even when they're making fun of exactly that) Have him listen to Morning Sedition on airamericaradio.com It's live from 6a-9a eastern, but you can download at airamericaplace.com (one guy, so if you end up using it much, please contribute)

Believe me, he will laugh (and chuckle, and guffaw), but he won't feel apathetic; Marc and Mark bring the accurate info with both rage and biting humor. Sort of like a Daily Show that doesn't even have to try to be fair. Last Friday's show was particularly good, and Monday's (haven't finished listening yet) post-debate rants are classic. Give him two days and he will be calling out "FIRETRUCK!" and "John Kerry took my shoe!" for no reason at all, and they'll have him caring who he votes for by Election Day.

If he won't tune in or stream -- download at least those two shows to disc for him -- he'll get hooked. (and I'd feel cheated, too -- maybe he's just sick and tired of arguing with sheeple, and wants to opt out and just vote once this year, instead of trying to bring votes into the fold...) Maybe make him sleep on the couch till he listens to them.

14. Has he had Bush in his face enough to cause him to snap?
Same thing happens in our house; I try to think about other things, and Michael says something about that goddamned sonofabitch and next thing I know, I am ready to scream, "I don't care...I really just don't care anymore."

It's fatigue....leave him alone. Go to a movie. Quit talking about it; the guy knows that Shrub is a pathetic, dangerous piece of shit. He doesn't need to be told every 15 minutes what the latest talking head has to say.
