Steve Tyler supports Bush
I'm in a hotel in Toronto, so I don't know which news station it was, but they did a bit on Springsteen, REM, and the rest on the tour, but after that they listed celebrities who support Bush. Among them was Freddie Prinze Jr. (which I knew) and some washed up twit from 90210. THEN - it was Steven Tyler. Okay, I can't stand the guy and I think he's a z-grade Jagger, but I know there's a lot of fans of Aerosmith on this board.

21. My sentiments too!
Overrated and overdone. :boring: Stick a fork in yourselves, Aerosmith, you're done. (Plus, I know someone who grew up in Worcester, MA who was acquainted with them from their bar band days that told me once Tyler was a first rate a-hole.)

28. Liv's okay.
And she was raised more by Todd Rundgren than she was by Steve Tyler anyway. In fact, I understand Bebe Buell (Liv's mother) told her Todd was her father for many years -- she didn't even know until she was nine or ten that he wasn't.

No question Todd's not a Bushbot, though I'd hesitate some to call him an outright liberal.

at some charity events. I never saw any article where Tyler supported Bush.

I wouldn't be surprised if the info was wrong, but it surprised me, nonetheless.

Still don't like him. That tortured-cat shreiking has never appealed to me. Though I'll admit the band is talented.

9. Steven Tyler is a Kerry Supporter
Edited on Tue Oct-12-04 09:59 AM by SemiCharmedQuark
Tyler also expressed his support of Presidential candidate John Kerry. "John (Kerry) and I are good friends. I speak to him a lot. Unfortunately, we're playing the night he's doing (the convention). He asked if we'd play it. I told him if he's elected president, on your inaugural, we'll play."

"Each guy (in Aerosmith) has got different opinions. I think all the presidents have a downfall. They try to do as much as they can egotistically. They say `for the people' and `of the people,' but it's not always that. It's for their own star."

"John Kerry's a different kind of guy. When you're talking to him, you feel you're talking to a guy who's had a lot of experience. He looks you square in the eye. He has a really strong belief system. I'm a big fan."

BTW, the station was CNN. It's always hard to tell when your watching on a different system than your home system. And I can NEVER figure out hotel tv's, especially since this one is also internet ready.

14. He's such a liberal-he sang at my church one Sunday a couple of years ago
I missed it-my friend was late picking me up for church, I still haven't forgiven her.

At the time, my church's pastor was Marianne Williamson, who is a friend of Steven Tyler's. He played in Auburn Hills one night, then came by the church and sang "Amazing Grace" with the choir. He claimed that Marianne and her teachings helped him get sober.

Anyways, my church is currently fairly apolitical, but at the time, was very liberal/politically-minded. Democrats were always showing up at election time. The church has changed since MW's departure, and the new pastor(s) are not making political statements. I doubt the political views of the congregation have changed all that much, however, just the pastors are more pragmatic.

I had wondered if he became a "born again" due to his drug problems. I think 70s Aerosmith is excellent, and they also had a lot of good moments in the 80s. Though they've never been a fave of mine.

you have to be real suspicious of these "celebrities that support Bush" lists. Many of them are wrong, and on others they take an act such a a celebrity visiting the troops as a sign that they support Bush.

22. I never liked him in the first place....
...so it wasn't an issue. The real reason I started this thread was CNN making the claim that Tyler supported Bush - when, as you've seen, there's plenty of evidence to the contrary.

BTW, I'm staying in the Holiday Inn in Toronto - and there's a rubber duck in the tub! Not kidding - it's standard issue in this hotel for some reason and the "Do Not Disturb - Taking A Bath" doornob flag has a rubber duck on it, too. It's nice to see a little humor in a hotel like this.

25. No surprise coming from the poster boy of corporate rock.
Aerosmith is a pathetic joke of a band since they came back. Corporate rock sellouts to Nth degree. Their very good 70's material is tainted by the super cheese soundtracks and other ultra pop garbage they've put out the last 15 years or so.

42. As others have pointed out-
Aerosmith was a great band until about the late '80's. I'm glad they are not repubs but I will listen to any band or artist I like no matter their political leanings. I don't care what Ted Nugent says, I will always listen to 'Double Live Gonzo.'

The poor Dixie Chicks don't have any fans because the right use this attitude. Just enjoy great art no matter where it comes from.

45. That is a myth. ANd it's bad journalism to report the bullshit that the
pathetic right-wing celebrities list websites put out there. Tyler in fact supports Kerry. Look at the incredible lengths to which those sites claim as reasoning to promote certain people as right-wingers or Bush supporters.

If an entertainer goes to make an appearance/show before some troops, and they aren't out-spoken liberals, they make the claim that they're conservatives. If a clearly apolitical celebrity accepted an invetation to the whitehouse or the Bush inauguration or something, they claim that they're "Bush supporters" or support him in this election.

If someone is conservative on ONE issuem whether culturally or stylistically or politically, and not outspokenly liberal on others, (sometimes even if they are outspokenly liberal on others) they claim them as right-wingers or Bush supporters or both.

I can go over example after example of this. And people on DU are utterly guilty of taking this Bullshit as gospel and viciously badmouthing them based on these baseless claims.
