but I fully admit that while I can read unglossed ME Medieval Italian is way beyond me.
Having said that, Chaucer's CT is a more profound, complex work than The Decameron, IMO. Why the Knight's Tale all by itself may be the most frequent victim of bad literary scholarship in the whole history of bad literary scholarship.

I've always thought the Decameron was less well tied together. Even the movie was a bit boring.
