Did you marry your best friend and, if so, are you still best friends?
As many people here know I'll be marrying my best friend in less than a year - I'm wondering how people in a similar situation have fared?

8. No, I did not. But she is now.
Truthfully, I married someone who made me a better person. Someone who complimented me, and I her.

If I would have married my best friend, I think I would have stopped developing as a person. But that's just me.

we started out as good friends nearly 25 years ago, and although we have changed obviously some over time ( parenting has made us more serious in some ways), we are still best friends. It is very cool to ride the wave of life with someone you like a lot and love a lot as well!

so I think you are in for interesting times, C and Jose'. :)

20. We were walking the other day and she said she's never laughed so much
with a person in my life. That, to me, is a great sign. Especially as that's just how I feel.

I'm happy for ya TE!

18. I'm gonna rain on this parade
I married my best friend. It took a while (10 yrs), but it went sour. She was the most arrogant person in the world (of course you can trust my judgment on this matter implicitly :-) ) and eventually I no longer met her standards. We no longer speak, ever.

28. If you're not when you get married, you become best friends
I've never really had one "best friend"-- I typically have a handful of people I'm very close to, and a few random acquaintances.

My wife was one of this "handful" when we got married (after a 1 1/2 courship), and we've stayed that way for the last 8+ years. She is definately my best friend in every respect today.

Best of luck on your great adventure, and may you enjoy many blissful years together!!! :toast:

Wayne and I were friends before we started dating and as we fell in love we became best friends. Thereis no one in the world I trust more nor is there anyone else I want to talk to about everything. Marriage can be hard at times - and it really helps if you have a strong friendship to hang onto. :)
