I'm in a moral quandry over the ALCS...HELP!
I have this deep antipathy toward the Yankees. Always have, but it’s been especially bad since they beat my beloved Rangers the only times they ever made the post-season.

So, last year I rooted for the Red Sox, enjoyed it thoroughly, and was planning on doing the same this year.

But here’s my dilemma. My best friend’s uncle, who I adore, is dying of cancer. They’ve stopped doing chemo because it wasn’t doing any good. He’s already past the date when they thought he’d be gone. He’s a lifelong Yankees fan and the going theory is that he’s hanging on to see them win one more World Series. It’s as good a theory as any. When the Yankees are playing he still really gets into the game and for a little while at least his life is about joy instead of pain.

So, I feel perfectly justified in rooting for the series with the Sox to go 7 games...all full of amazing baseball. But is it ok, just this once, to root for the Yankees to win just for him?

1. The best reason ever
I hope your friend's uncle passes away peacefully. I lost my mom to cancer in January.

2. Yes.
For certain situational reasons, it is acceptable for a Rangers fan to pull for the Yankees. The Baseball Gods will understand.

3. No
It isn't. He may want "one more", but there are thousands of Sox fans in the same boat who are saying "just once". He's already got a ring, in fact 46 (?) of 'em...

I mean, it's a bit of a macabre question to ask, but I had to answer. My prayers are with your friend's uncle.

to holler "Let's Go Yankees!" quite yet. At the moment I'm just rooting for some great baseball for him. I can't imagine as a Yankees fan he wouldn't be thrilled to have a chance to see 7 more games against the Red Sox. :)

What is more important, a baseball team or a man dying of cancer? I say the latter.

I remember 2001, when a lot of people who don't normally root for the Yankees rooted for them.
