Jazz fans - ever hear vocalist/lyricist Lorraine Feather? |
|
She is Leonard Feather's daughter (If you have to ask - don't) - right now I'm listening to "Such Sweet Thunder", a CD where Feather puts lyrics to the music of Duke Ellington.
Wonderful stuff - check out "Antarctica", based on the Ellinton/Coleman Hawkins tune "The Ricitic."

1. I once sat next to Leonard Feather at a Monterrey Jazz festival. |
|
He scowled through the whole thing, writing endlessly through every performance. I had the distinct impression he never actually heard a note.
I don't have much use for music critics of any stripe, jazz or otherwise, but I would suppose that Ms. Feather was at least hearing the music when she grew up. It wouldn't surprise me if she was very good.

2. Leonard Feather was a composer, as well |
|
Quite a few of his compositions are in the jazz lexicon - "Mighty Like The Blues" is on his daughter's CD, although I had never heard that tune before.
